Hi, word of advice i would sell this on ebay. I sold my Sky + Thomson (only 80GB) On ebay with the auction ending yesterday. I got £51 including postage! BUT you can't advertise with viewing card, apparently Sky are on the hunt for that as your not allowed to sell them on. I tried selling my Sky + box on here and people wanted to pay nothing for it, just a word of advice!

Can you use a splitter for a single LNB > two or four? Maplins sell them..

just a warning for people who want to use this as a second sky+ box, i got one 3 weeks ago and called sky to pair up the new box with my card, 3 weeks later i'm still waiting for them to do it. they claim there is a problem with adding second sky+ subscriptions to peoples accounts (unless you buy a sky+ box direct from them for £280 of course)
i have called them 17 times in the past 3 weeks and spoken to several supervisors who keep telling me different things. just be warned you'll be in for a long wait trying to get your second sky+ activated.

I've just had Sky HD installed today and now I've got my Sky + box as a spare. If I run another two cables from the LNB, can I use this box as a freeview AND use the Sky + features?

everything will work except the movies and sports channels, sky+ wont work unless it's activated on the card inside the box. if there is no card inside it'll just be a normal freeview box without sky+ features.

When they installed it, they used the card from my Sky + box and put it into the new HD box because my new card from Sky has yet to arrive. Once it arrives and I put it into the HD box, can I put my old card back into the Sky + box and everything should work. Yeah?

you'll have to pair up the card again probably, so if you put your old card back in your old box you'll have to ring sky and get them to pair it back with your old box. then get them to pair up the new card with your sky hd box.
the best way for you to do it is..when your new card arrives just put that in your old box and leave the hd one as it is, then you'll only have to get them to pair up your new card with your old box.

And thats what you been waiting 3 weeks for?

more or less yeah, i need the card paired to my second sky+ box and a second sky+ subscription adding to my account. the excuses i keep getting are probably because i wouldn't pay them £280 for a box i got on ebay for 35quid.
the guy who installed my sky put both cables to my multiroom for me so all i needed to buy was a box, he even suggested finding one on ebay as sky charge way too much for them.

thats what i did and they paired it up straight away for me, took about 20 minutes.

Was your second Sky + box from Sky or was it one you bought second hand? Maybe Sky are not to keen to give you a second subscription to boxes not bought from them.
#15
what i tell anyone i know who wants sky is to do all this before you sign up for anything, buy a second hand box and have it ready before you have sky installed. they're very helpful when they're trying to get you to sign up but as soon as you've done it, they don't care.

Technically it will work but only on certain channels at a single time. Its complicated...

yes you are better off running a new coax and getting a dual/quad lnb. i can probably throw the wires in that go to your dish, but no LNB.

Just been an hour on the phone to Sky. Past from one person to another. Can someone answer me this question.

I've just upgraded to HD. They took the card from my Sky + box and put it in my new HD box. If I get a Sky card to put back into my old Sky + box, run two wires from the LNB to the box and get the box and card paired up, will I be able to use the Sky + box as a freeview box with the Sky + features or will I have to pay for multiroom to get the Sky + features to work?

Hope it not too confusing. Cheers.

any chance stuff like this goes in Misc? as im selling a sky + box, and most of this isnt to do with me.

ps your answer is you will have to either pay £10 for multiroom or £10 to sign up to the recording so multiroom would be the best bet.
