Looking to get rid of my laptop due to the purchase of a new one.

Before I start this laptop has a slight fault in the fact that the battery will not charge when fitted. I purchased a brand new original battery and the symptoms persist. The laptop is just out of warranty and so I decided to buy a new one which had a BluRay drive.
It works perfectly from the mains and should be a cheap repair should you want to do so.

It comes fully boxed with all paperwork, restore disks and cables. It is in VGC with only a few minor scratches. There are no cracks or bad damage and it is in full working order (apart from battery charging). It will be supplied with a fresh install of Vista Home premium or Windows 7 if you prefer.

I am looking for £250 ONO for it as it cost me £750 14 months ago, I am open to offers and may trade for something else of similar value. I might be interested in one of those little laptop/netbook pc's as my little lad is after one.

My ebay username is mightyvulcan , please contact me through that should you wish to confirm it's me and see my feedback.

Thanks for looking!

May I suggest calling Toshiba and talking to one of their customer services managers, so they can arrange for a free collection and repair of the computer?

Toshiba is one of the most customer focused computer manufacturers on the market. Tell them how disappointed you are of the computer and Toshiba as a brand. If the rep says no ask for his/her manager, with a bit of persistence they will offer you a free collection/repair.

If the computer works fine, with the exception of the charging of the battery, there are two possible faults I can think of. The power board (< £25 part) or the power supply (< £30).

Cheers for the info, however they have already told me that i'd need to pay for it. In any case it needs to be sold as I have my new one now LOL

Used to work for a Toshiba, Apple, Sony and IBM/Lenovo authorised repair centre. Over the years I worked there I have had Toshiba collect may be a dozen out of warranty machines directly from customers for free repairs.

If you don't feel like talking to Toshiba again, you can also talk to the retailer or your credit card company (assuming you paid by credit card). They are the ones legally obliged to do something about the fault (Toshiba will usually do the repair for free as a good will gesture and to maintain their brand name, not because they are legally obliged to do so).

If you are sure that you haven't misused the computer (ie: dropped it), then it has fallen well short of it's expected life span and you are legally entitled to a repair, partial refund or a replacement. All you need to do is speak up and get past that intial "it's out of warranty" response.
