This is a very good, basic DVD burner. It handles multiple formats and works on USB bus power without having to use a seperate mains connection.

This unit seems to be a basic off the shelf laptop DVD drive with an added USB interface, in a plastic case. Its a basic, cheap design. Its also a great design. The off the shelf nature of the components mean its cheap. It also means its well supported.
The extras are a little sparse as there is not CD/DVD burning software in the box. It would also have been nice to get a case for it to stop the rubberised surface getting scratched.

The good.
It works, it burns DVD/CD's at the speeds detailed. I've not had a bad burn yet using good quality blanks.
It works great with my netbook powering off the usb ports.
DVD playback is solid and pretty quiet.
The cover has a really nice rubberised feel to it.
Its pretty light

The bad.
The case on mine didn't quite match up right for the USB and power connections. This could have just been my unit but it should have been picked up at QC as its pretty obvious.
You need to use 2 USB ports to power it. Others in this catagory need only one connector. This is a pain as you loose a USB port and you have to carry around two wires. One of which is a custom power lead that you can't replace very easily.
This is a pretty basic package. The only disk is a Win98 driver disk on a mini CD. This is bad as you need a CD drive to install the software for the CD drive. Its also a pain as some drives (especially slot loaders) can handle mini CDs.

Overall, a great little "you get what you pay for" product. You won't be overwhlemed with the feeling of an amazing deal but you won't regret your purchase either.

you only need to use the one usb lead with this one, and it works fine in vista and windows 7 as thats what ive used it on. I know its biased but i havent honestly had any problems with mine, mind you, i have only used it about 3 times. Thanks for the revies tho
