The HotUKDeals For Sale/Trade forum is an area where HUKD members can personally trade with other members. It is like the classifieds in your local paper or eBay, but entirely free and for member use only. HUKD does not make any guarantee as to the trustworthiness or condition of any trades on here and we do not validate the listings on here. So please trade cautiously, follow these rules closely and understand the risk factor involved in any personal trades.

Pay particular attention to the "Suggested Guidelines for Buyers" section below.

This has now been added to the FS Rules and Code of Conduct:

Please Note: Under 18's are able to use any forum and including the For Sale forum. Please bear this in mind when trading, as we are unable to confirm or take responsibility for the age of any user. We also suggest that you collect as much information and as many details as possible before starting to trade with anyone.

What about if there any issues with a user under 18?

I only say this because surely it would difficult to bring legal action against someone who is underage?

I think this could create some huge problems.

That's why we can't emphasise enough that you collect as much information and as many details before making a trade with anyone. It's down to you to make sure you know who you're dealing with.

Any issues for HUKD if someone decides to trade with a minor, e.g. selling DVD's rated at 18 to someone under age ?

Should HUKD be providing the mechanism for carrying out such activities and absolving themselves of any blame ?

Seems to be regulated pretty well when dealing with counterfeit goods, so why permit other activites to take place and absolving themselves of any responsibility ?

Just a thought....

Maybe sellers / buyers can provide Photo ID in addition to pics of what they are selling. lol
#127
hmmm driving licenese addy, telephone number, mothers maiden name .... that should do it ;-) LOL

I've added a hotlink for troll, for those of you who do not know the term:

(16) If you believe a poster is dodgy please use the “report” button http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/13761/updated-for-sale-forum-rules-and-gu/../../../forums/images/custom_buttons/report.gif stating your evidence. ONLY post suspicions in the thread if you are 100% positive the poster is a troll.

:)

Just to clarify an issue that has been raised a few times over the past while:

(4) It should go without saying but no prohibited, classified or otherwise illegal items. (This includes fake/counterfeit goods of any kind)

Could it be put in the rules about how to get your thread closed?

I don't think that it should be a "Rule" as such, but I see many threads with the words "Mods please close" in it, and then someone coming along to tell them that they should report the thread to have it closed.

Also people saying that the thread is closed, and then updating the thread with useless information and bumping legitimate threads down the page.

I know many do not read the Rules, but this may catch the eyes of one or two.

One more thing(Pant, pant), could new rules be highlighted in red for a short period of time(1 month for example)? That way you could skim through the rules and see if anything had changed since you last looked.

That's all... :)

I agree. Some sort of clarification about thread closure would be a good idea, especially after the problems I've had over the last couple of days

Hi sassie,

The clarification I was after (and I think thesaint was after) was with regard to how to close a thread.

"(8) Please update your thread once the item has been sold, trade completed or request fulfilled. If necessary, use the “report” button in the first post to notify a moderator of changes."

Nowhere in point 8 does it say that you 'must' use the report button to close a thread. I recently updated my thread requesting for it to be closed, then opened a new thread 9 days later, but because my old thread hadn't been 'officially' closed/locked, my new thread was then in turn locked.

I'm just wondering if it's possible for rule 8 to be either amended so people know exactly what they need to do.
banned#136
argh i see, yes it does need joining up with the you cannot list your items in more than one thread, as its against forum rules to relist whilst still open, and against forum rules to relist for 7 days once closed, these two rules need to be together, as for the closure of a thread most people do think mods read every post - lol, although even when title has been edited to ask for closure (even though editing thread title is a no-no) they still dont get seen - lol
#137
Just a few extra words added to the rules along the above lines...

(8) Please update your thread once the item has been sold, trade completed or request fulfilled. If necessary, use the “report” button http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/13761/updated-for-sale-forum-rules-and-gu/../../../forums/images/custom_buttons/report.gif in the first post to notify a moderator of changes. This includes and is your responsibility to make sure we know you have closed or expired your thread.

(19) If a thread is closed or removed from the FS forum at any time, the same items or thread will not be allowed back until at least a period of one week has passed from the date of closure. Those same items also cannot be listed or offered in other active threads.

I think ive just been ripped off what should i do? I swapped a new dvd and £30 with jr129389 but hes never sent the items, he made up various excuses, now his inbox is full so i cant even send him any messages, do you have a set system for these circumstances? Should i post him a letter first or just go to the police? Thanks
#139
just pm the admin hes keeping an eye on jr129389 because he was on the avoid traders list before.
banned#140
he has done with with every item sold, think the plan is sell something, stall with actually sending items and if no complaints then no need to send, it was so obvious, look at everything he has sold and see for yourself

Thats true - you will probably get your item in the end after lots of frustration and effort on your part and lots of excuses and lies on his. He has a very poor trading history here, and was on the old 'traders to avoid' list until that was made defunct - and was allowed to trade under a new name. Make sure that you leave feedback reflecting your purchasing experience in order to advise other potential future traders

(9) If listing a request a price is not needed, however sellers responding to the request are required to state a price. We do not permit threads such as “I have £x in my paypal account, what can you offer”. Any such threads will be locked. Buyers must state specifically what they are looking for.

Added a bit to section 9 in the rules above.

Somebody else started a thread yesterday saying the same thing is happening with him. He keeps getting the run around but has jr129389's phone number I think. I'll try and find the thread so you can contact him.

I haven't seen any threads like that, and if I did, I would lock them too.
#148
Like the new rule, and also like that it is highlighted in red, in the rules. :)
#149
Can anyone explain why it's a good idea to lock a sales thread when a buyer has already paid for the item and ban the seller?

This happened to me a few months ago, and after pointing out the mod's stupid decision she banned me again.

The buyer got really worried and had to contact me via e-mail to ask what was going on, all because of the incompetence of a moderator.
#150
mmcg - if you break the rules, you face a ban - I don't see the problem here. Calling the moderators "incompetent" for enforcing the rules just doesn't make sense!
#151
How would you feel if you bought something in the trading folder, paid for it, and then the seller was banned and the thread locked? I can imagine it wouldn't feel nice.

Ban me, yeah, but let the buyer and seller complete the sale first so as not to cause unnecessary stress to a buyer.

You probably can't expect mods to examine the context of each case - they can just enforce the rules. But your point is a good one - Maybe there could be a way of keeping pm communications open between buyers and sellers in such circumstances if both parties request it...?
#153
If the buyer and seller have followed the forum guidelines and got each others details, then there isn't an issue - they can still communicate.

not sure if your question is tongue-in-cheek, but if you have been suspended a few times then surely you know the reason why in each case..? I have been suspended once, and the reason for the suspension was explained. Although I didn't realise I'd broken a rule until after the fact (relisting within a week), once it had been explained I accepted that it was my responsibility to know the rules. I think the rules are fairly enforced.

As Liddle ol' me says, you have been given the reasons, which varied from over-bumping threads, to repeatedly listing the same items in multiple threads.

Don't break the rules - you won't get suspended.

Even better than being stickied jizzm ... upon submitting a fs/trade thread there is a stop sign with a link to fs/trade rules as below
Please read the FS/FT rules before submitting a sale or trade item.
Also, when reading through the fs forum you will see at the top of every thread another stop sign with this
Stop! Do not start a trade before reading and following this guide: FS/FT trading advice and reading the FS/FT rules
There really is no excuse not to read and abide by the rules

Hi.
I have a pair of tickets to sell as I can't go to the event. I noticed in the rules that tickets must be at "cost price". Presumably this means the cost of buying the tickets and not just the face value? I would really like to ask for the cost of buying the tickets (inlcuding booking fee and p&p) as these were significant, and it's a good deal anyway as it's long since sold out. Is that permitted? Please don't let me have to go to ebay!!
