dont mind used or new, but would like the battery to hold an average of 90 mins.

have some ofm of windows xp (liscenced not just simply installed) and a decent enough proccessor with around 256-512 of ram. dont need wirless or anything like that, just a platform to allow me to install my own office and strat writing :) as that is ALL i want it for. simply writing in bed at night and also at the beach etc. dont need internet other programs, music or anythign like that. (just a portable writing pad really ;))

so im looking for something cheap i would say under 120 quid but maybe less.

hope you can help

I have a Dell Inspiron 500m - 1.4ghz, 512mb ram, 25gb hard drive, wireless, infrared, also has a swappable floppy disk drive - one downside is that it that it doesn't have a cd/dvd writer - it plays CDs and DVDs fine though (you could get an external hard drive) - 14 inch screen - standard 1024 resolution

also has linux, as well as XP, installed if you wish to use a different operating system

has a special longer life battery which i bought about 6 months ago - you can get at least 4 hours basic use out of it or watch a DVD on full brightness without the battery dying. i also have a dell laptop bag which i can include -

the palm rests are a bit worn but no major marks or damage and the laptop runs fine - it is a reliable machine with no dead pixels or broken keys and xp works at a good pace - i have never found it to slow down or stutter

I have found it brilliant when doing my work as I can type for hours without worrying about the battery dying
very interested and would like the bag yes.

what price you looking for?

btw i can prove my legitimacy and eveyrthign through ebay and paypal etc. ;)

going to a concert today but i will check my messages tonight and we will get the deal done by tonight ot very early tomorrow morning

is it within the dell warranty or not (dont mind as they are usually sturdy)
has it ever been repaired before or has anything ever gone wrong with it.

look forward to doing business with you.

I would be looking for £170 delivered - with the bag and everything - the battery is one of its selling points and i guarantee you won't be disappointed

There is no Dell warranty - it is a fairly old machine - it has not been repaired, there has been nothing wrong with in - both in terms of software and hardware - no broken or stuck keys, it is a brilliant machine and has never let me down

the only thing that was replaced was the old battery - with the new one I put in (as i mentioned before) - also the new battery has not been pushed as i only used it for work and watching a dvd occasionally rather than constantly using it -
edit i apologize

yeah i will need to negotiate that price down, because i know it sounds stupid but if im paying close to 200 then i might as well go for a higher spec new laptop for around 250 from dell and others.

however as you said the new battery does make it very attractive and its why i totally understand that price.

as i said in the pm for a ms word only use of the laptop 170 is a bit more than i was wanting to spend,

could you do 135 with bag and delivery?
I understand what you are saying about buying a new spec laptop but in terms of battery - it is a higher capacity one and that is one of the big selling points - i remember paying £60 for the battery alone, i appreciate laptop prices go down but some of the newer spec laptops are poor quality and they cannot match the battery life of this one

how about £150 delivered?

whereabouts are you based - you may be able to collect it? - £20 would cover the delivery cost, that's what adds to the overall price
i really dont mean to mess you about however i will need a day or two to think about it. i WILL give a decision by tomorrow night.

the reason is i have spoken to my brother. and he is saying he may need use of a better one come september, when he starts his film and music tech course. i will talk it through with him and my mte (who is on that same course) to make sure he is just not wanting a high spec laptop for no reason ;) then get back to you.

its either this for me with great battery life (and i so 150 is fine) i live in barmouth gwynedd wales by the way. aroudn two hours from birmingham and manchester and liverpool.

so a new high spec one that my bro can also use.

as i said i will let you know tomorrow night
I'm not going to discourage you from buying a higher spec laptop if you need it - especially if it will be used it for work

It would be cheaper (in terms of petrol) and easier for me to send - I'm a long way away from you lol

I don't mind waiting for a decision - so long as it is by tommorow night and no later - with respect, nobody wants someone to 'umm' and 'err' over a decision for too long -
yeap totally agree i would not do that having been in a similar position myself many times.

i am weighing up the options and will shop around for new laptops first (using these offers) and decide whether the top spec is worthy of the difference in price.

thanks for your patience

is the ram upgradeable to 1 gb or maybe higher (doubt that cause of the age) but would like to know as i would want to upgrade it straight away most likely as that might allow it to be suitable for my bro next year too.
from what i've found on the web - i think it may to go up to 2gb - however, it is worth considering that you are still limited by processor speed and hard drive memory

have you considered purchasing two laptops? The Dell could also be a spare or just used for basic work.

i wouldn't spend too much on upgrading the Dell, it may be better to just purchase a higher capacity battery for a new laptop - this Dell is a basic, reliable laptop with good battery life, and it may or may not be suitable for you
thanks for your honesty, i am still strongly considering because as the first post says froma selfish point of view i only need ti for word

it whether buying a new laptop for the future might be a better idea is all.
i have decided to go with your deal.

on one cond. (may be stretching it)

you sending it special del. tomorrow? kind of impatient to start writing :)

also is there a way i can clear off linux cause im not really interested in that op system.
unless you can somehow teleport cash to me now - i cannot send it special delivery tomorrow lol

i can clear off linux
payment sent

waiting for payment to arrive and clear - will let you know when payment is recieved and when laptop has been dispatched

whoo hoo
payment received, laptop posted today
laptop recieved

thank you so much
