Im in need of something like this so I can listen to my movies late at night without wakening up my family. My tv doesn't have a headphone output thats why im in need of one of these.

Something similar to this

I think the rca's will be an input. It's an output you need.

i got one off of ebay for about 2 quid, but as jtx said its an output you will need so unsure if this will work
#4
Maplin do a scart lead with about 8 rca's on the end, that might work. Just cut the "audio out" one and replace it with a female 3.5mm

what kind of movies late at night? lol

tesco used to sell one of these for 97p. and JTX for a straight forward convertor like this there is no input or output. it simply takes whatever signal you connect it to and convert it to a different socket type, no circuitry involved just simple wires.

But if you connect it to a sound input it will not output any sound, will it:roll:

ah with you, i thought you were taliking about the cable and not the tv.
what i did with one before was to open a scart cable and solder the wires onto the audio out L R and G wires. this will give you a headphone socket if the tv doesn't have one

maybe you'd be better to put up the make and model of the tv, then we'll be able to see what outputs it does have

Hi mate this is the tv I have

http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.205-0943.aspx

I was planning on just putting the yellow video wire from my xbox into the scart and put my white and red audio into the thing I originally posted and then stick my earphones in there. Would that work?

*EDIT* Sorry I havent replied in here for a week, I forgot all about this thread sorry lol.
