My 8 year old daughter has saved her pocket money and is looking for a laptop for that can handle the usual things such as Word, Excel and obviously be hook upable to the internet.

Looking for one with a dvdr and wireless preferably.

It would be great if it was able to handle some form of image software like the cut down photoshop.

She's not into games (yet!!!) so it doesn't need to be too fast.

A decent sizes hard drive would be great to store vids and music.

She's a girlie girl so it could do to be decent aesthetically.

Many thanks.

Youll be struggling at 150, would be thinking more along the lines of 300 new and 200ish 2nd hand.

Hi bobdylan

What size screen does this have please?

My daughter has poor vision hence we are looking for a large screen.

Thanks.

I'd keep saving for now.. if she gets any Christmas money maybe she'd want to put that towards it?

The MSI Wind occasionally comes up at around £250.. has wifi, bluetooth, webcam (that can be disabled) and will use excel and word.

Only problem with that is the screen size.

Also, the battery is only a few months old as I replaced it as the old one wouldn't keep a charge (as with most laptop batteries!) and so will now last around 2 hours or so

Thanks all,

mitchwales, I agree with you that there will be bargains after Christmas but I am hoping to surprise her and buy one for her if I can get a good buy.

She has had a difficult year with various traumas but hasn't let them get her down so a reward is deserved.

jizzm, I like the looks of yours but I fear it may be well outside our budget, what's your best price please?

Well whats your maximum budget and i can try to accomodate that.
Does it HAVE to be a laptop?
As i could build you a decent computer, as i've just set up a company dealing with computer repairs and computer builds.
let me know.

I have an IBM T40/41 (not sure which off hand), Pentium 4 M Centrino 1.6ghz, 512MB Ram, 40GB HDD, 14.1" screen. If you are interested I will take some pics and post on thread. Will also confirm specs etc. Looking for £150 Delivered, based on me selling a similar slightly lower speced R40 on here for £135.

Many thanks everyone, having spoken to my wife she thinks our daughter's vision may be a problem and she would be better off with a pc.

I have a spare one so the answer may be sat in the loft.

Thanks again, neil

Absolutely, that is exactly what my better half said, not as portable but more useable.

Now to try and find a decent 19/20" monitor cheap !!!
