I've got 2 sticks - 128 mb and 256mb.

Ran Ubuntu and XP on it without problems - Ubuntu was better obviously.

what would you offer me?

sorry - they are 184pin DDR. unsure of speed.

http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=CT2KIT6464Z40B

for reference, 2x 512 DDR400 = £37.

Worth bearing in mind upto DDR400 will be backward compatible.

thanks for that mate. have some rep. i had no idea it was that expensive! only wanted to pay around a tenner for 1gb
so i could get up to ddr400 and it would work fine?

btw, CPU-Z (www.cpuid.com) will tell you your motherboard model, use the crucial memory selector and it will give you a guaranteed compatible result or your money back, you can either purchase from there, or use it as a guide.

cheers mate. thing is its for another old pc i have here which im getting working again. only needs ram. i found the specs for the motherboard (K7Z5A) and that said it took 184-pin DDR SDRAM PC-1600/2100 and 168-pin SDRAM PC-100/133. i think there's 2 slots for each. it will only be for internet browsing and playing music on xp anyway so i dont need a lot.
i'm gonna have a look in my local cex tomorrow cos according to the website they have 2 x 256mb available that should be compatible.

thanks for your help fella

uuummm very few boards out there that can do both ddr and sdram, i have one, an ecs kobkt266, "new" memory of both types will be expensive in comparison to the new ddr2
both types also need to be watched due to the vast differences in chip density, you could buy a 256 mb stick and find your machine will not boot or may only see half the ram check v carefully and best get a "return" option in case

cheers fella, apparently cex have 2 x 256mb sticks in my local for £4 each so I'm gonna try them tomorrow. At least they give a 12 month warranty anyway. Although I know from my dealings with them that they don't bother checking them when they buy off people!
