Wanted: 2.5" sata hard drive caddy/enclosure [open for feedback] £0.01

Looking for a hard drive caddy/enclosure to buy (or possibly borrow) that would fit a 2.5" laptop drive, that will fit the drives which are 12.5mm thick/tall.

Preferably USB powered, not fussy though - just want one to use to wipe my old laptop hard drive before selling.

SATA connection please.

Think you need to say if it is sata or ide that you need.

True, thanks - title edited.

I have a 2.5 sata in red, used but as new with usb cable. Not sure if it fits 12.5mm drives(are they thicker than standard laptop hard drives?) But the controller comes out so will fit any 2.5 sata lappy drive.

Any good?

I've already got a standard 2.5" sata and the controller comes out too, but won't work with 12.5mm drive so I'd have to say no thanks, unless you've tested with a 12.5mm drive.

And yes, they're thicker than standard laptop drives - not sure why, just came in my vaio when I got it.

So thicker but is the sata/power connector different? I find it strange that it would be but who knows. I thought all the sata stuff were universal on the 2 diff size drives

Does the controller not fit the drive? If it does maybe it needs a usb cable with dual usb plugs on it to gain the extra power?

You're right, sata is universal - the controller does fit the drive, I think the dual USB plugs is a good shout but my controller only has a microUSB port and I've only got a dual USB cable.

So has your caddy/enclosure got a USB port, if so could I borrow/buy it?
If not, have you got a dual USB to microUSB cable?

The wife just eyed the red case up to replace the pink one she had but hers is an ide controller and fit the red case.

But the sata controller deffo works fine and has a micro usb to 2 usb cable so doubles the power. You are welcome to borrow the controller with cable if it will help you out. It may be the controller you have does not like your hard drive, who knows.

If you want to keep it its up to you as you can have it for a couple of quid delivered as I have another so dont really need a spare.
