Cheers. Doesn't have to be sony. I have picked one up off ebay for £15. Any like that price?

be careful of memory cards off of ebay, loads are fake and use compression firmware to get 8gb on much smaller cards. they will corrupt eventually and you ll lose your data
#5
Yepm if your using it in a PSP in particular you will run into problems.
Play is your best bet.

If you look in your PSP at the £15 eBay ones I bet they dont say MagicGate Supported and thus will be fakes :)
#6
Ok. Would they not be ok at all.
Ie would they run for at least a year?

thats the problem they might last a year or a day or not work at all. stick to genuine ones thats the best bet from a decent website

Ok cheers. Gona keep that one and get one off play. Or someone off here if they have one?
#9
I don't know whether it is imperative to have a 8gb card, but it would be cheaper to buy two (Sandisk) 4gb ones.
#10
Got my 8gb official one off play, with the £5 voucher from this site it was 48 quid! £24 per 4gb of official sony goodness cant be sniffed at!

Hmm now they have the mark 2 version, dont know which is better, might actually order one and test them side by side..

Will post the results unless someone already has the 8gb mark 2 version?
#11
According to the sony site, they state the same read/write speeds for both products, seems like its a marketing ploy to get people like myself to buy one anyway just to test it lol..

Fact is i probably will..

Anyone want any 4gb ebay duo's? got sandisk and sony, all say magicgate unknown though, but have never caused me any issue.
#12
so are they 'fake'
price?

Ok, I've been looking at the completed listings on fleebay, now all of the ones I bought were from reputable UK sellers, and come in their original packaging stating 5 year warranty and all that, Havenrt tried phoning sony as ive had no need to.

But when I found out about the magicgate test it was too late for me to send back to the seller on fleebay, fact is i benchmark all my cards so I can keep the fastest for my self and distribute the slower ones to my little brother, sister and kids.

So all of the ones I have are the fastest, all be it by a small margin as they were all very similar. Fake or not my psp says magicgate unknown, so I suppose they must be fake, damn good fakes with full packaging at that!

I'd say if I came to sell them In keeping with the going rate on eBay as you MUST assume that ALL no matter how they are packaged are fake, I would sell at the lowest completed prices of about 12.50 with delivery just add 50p, free if you dont want the packaging.

Is there any other way of testing Pro Duo's for fakeness? appart from in a PSP??

The psp is by far the best and now ONLY method. The rest, such as serial numbers, size and italics and gold lettering, are all mimiced very accurately.

ok cool, so its only the magicgate the counterfitters cant re-produce? or dont want to as it would increase production costs..

An you just triangle and go to info right? and it says unkonwn? or what supported? ok? not on your nelly you fake duo using courtholio! LOL
#16
yeah. You hit triangle, info. If it is unknown, it is UNSUPPORTED and fake.

Where do you test it?

I have gone to "Battery information", and when you select it, it gives:

Charge level
Hours left
Power Source
Battery Status

When you hit triangle, this does nothing.

K thanks for that. just tried it with all the duo's i have, the 32mb ones are ok, 2 x 512 mb ones one sandisk and one sony are ok, a 1 gb one thats ok, but the 4 gb ones are all unsupported!

1 sandisk, 2 sony.

like i said, not had any issues with them so i'm not bothered.. I do remember having a 2gb branded with the red colour high speed on it which didnt work at all in my psp's but was fine in my little bros phone, an he's still using it..

I think untill i get this other 8gb, (mark 2 one through, yes i bought it anyways! doh.) I wont be selling any of my 4gb ones.

just go to games, press triangle, click on info and its there dude

lol you dont go there. You go to game, memory stick (dont hit x), hit triangle, and go to information. It should tell you there whether it is magicgate supported or not.

and so they bloomin should be! from a shop.. dont ebay, basically the sellers i weeded out from many that sell duos, had thousands of feedback, they still sell them now, still state 5 year warranty, and as i said, mine all come in their original packaging as shown, not just the card and adaptor.

I think if you do ebay, and really worry about fakes, though most people are using them, then check it as soon as you get it as most offer a 7 or 14 day money back gaurantee. I went over this and got the door slammed in my face when i enquired about it..
#23
Do the fakes still work with the psp?

So anyone have 8gb fake or not for sale
#24
The fakes have shoddy read speeds, so don't expect many isos to work :P

My friend can't play Crisis Core from his. He thought he was a smartass and grabbed an 8gb from a 10000 seller on ebay, basically spent more than I did (had a PEAK microhc 4gb card and pro duo reader, and just bought a class6 8gb card for £28.)

Mine works flawlessly with everything I throw at it (psone, psp games, emulators, comicbooks, ebooks) at a better speed than my old sandisk cards.

Avoid fakes.
