Are you sure it's the CPU? What are the symptoms/beeps?

If we can determine it is indeed the CPU, I've got a AMD 64 3000+ S939 you can have for £15 delivered (1st class recorded).

looks like yours is the sandiego core, so yes, just better as the 3000 will be 1.8ghz and only 512k cache

Do you have your case speaker connected to the motherboard? If not, power-off the PC, connect the speaker to the board's header & try booting-up again. Tell us the number of & sequence of beeps if any.

Is the CPU heatsink fan spinning? Has this problem happened all of a sudden? Is this your own PC, or something you recently purchased from someone else? Apologies for the many questions, but not having a firsthand look or knowing some history of the PC puts us at a distinct disadvantage to diagnose correctly.

Also, please let us know your motherboard make+model when replying.

Yes Cluffy321, yours is the more powerful one. As tronic suggests, Google the long number on the chip so you can be certain it's a S939.

yes done that also changed memory, took all hd and roms off, checked heat sink, the only thing i cant do is test out the cpu

Well, connecting the speaker can confirm a few problems - beeps or no beeps :)

Are you saying the CPU fan went down in this PC too? Were you overclocking the CPU in this instance too? Overclocking can damage the motherboard too, can it not? Can you tell us what led up to this happening?

I'm happy to sell you the CPU (open to offers btw), but how will you test if the motherboard may not be working in the first place?

tronic, thanks for the link. It's not conclusive, though you could be right as you know what you did before this happened - & also from similar symptoms in the past.

I've a motherboard & changed everything, & I get similar symptoms to those. Everything spins, lights-up, etc but no display/beeps either. I too have tried everything with other working components: CPUs, RAM, graphics cards & PSUs - 2/3 different of each in fact!

Anyway, let me know if you're still interested in my CPU. In any event, all the best with the diagnostics & repair
