Hi guys,

As title.I've got a strong interest in graphic and web design and thought it would be nice to take up photography both as a hobby and for use in my work.

If anyone is looking to sell (preferably Nikon or Canon) please let me know!

Thanks!

Nick

I've tried this in the past and got nowhere less than a brand new D40's price. good luck with your search but try and look up on the brand new D40 pricing and see if you really want to save a tenner or two and loose warranty

I travel light. very light, buying clothes from countries I'm visiting than carrying a suitcase :)

Wanted an SLR but couldn't justify carrying extra lenses, etc... Bought a Fuji S9600 brand new from Amazon gives me 28-300 zoom with very good reviews on the net and I know a pro who uses one, he makes a living from his photographs so if I'm still churning bad photos from the cam, I know it's me who's not good and probably wouldn't do any better with DSLR's.

An SLR choice will cost you in camera + any services required + definitely one macro lens and atleast one or two zoom lenses. a tripod and a huge bag to carry your stuff in and if you're not made of gold, some insurance on top.

Even with the standard lens it's worth carrying a DSLR around, so much better than a compact and just over £200 for the Nikon D40. Also the 400D is £300 at Sainsbury's if you can find one.

Try eBay for secondhand bargains. A Nikon D100 can be picked up for less than £140 right now (body only). This is only 6MP, but don't be fooled. The images are incredibly clear. You also get a lot of camera features for the money.

I started off with a D40. Excellent entry level DSLR. Easy to use and fantastic quality. :)

thanks for all your advice guys! sounds like the nikon's are the way to go...

I disagree, I would say look at the Canon 1000D

Thats a great starter camera

Canon have a much wider range of lenses, and the second hand market is very large giving you the option to get some good lenses quite cheap.

Or find yourself a cheap 350D, 400D or even a 450D which is an excellent camera for the price.

do any of you guys know which of these cameras would be particularly good for HDR photos like this:

These are the style i really want to go with...any advice appreciated, thanks so far! :)

I know you dont want a sony but i am very very happy with my a200 and i did notice the deal on today
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/237564/sony-dslr-a200k-digital-slr-camera-
Out of interest why did you rull this camera out, lenses are cheaper as the I/S is built into the camera not the lense.

thanks! just from a bit of looking around the net...seems to be that you go for Nikon or Canon - nothing else! i'll check this one out though! have you got a flickr stream i can look at?

I think most DSLRs have bracketed exposure (it will take 3 pictures on one button push at different increments of exposure enabling you to develop HDR pics easier)

HDR is software driven so the camera really has little impact.

The Sony is a decent enough camera, but the beauty about the Nikon and Particularly the Canons is that many third party companies make affordable accesories and lenses enabaling you to shoot on a budget.

What about this Nikon D-40 with 18-55 mm lens:
http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/463011/art/nikon/d40-black-af-s-dx-18-55-m.html
Standard delivery £8.50 but go through Quidco for 4% back so £9.08 knocked off, effectively free postage.

I'll check the other cash back sites for you, if you chose to go through a cashback site perhaps it would help someone out to refer you, just a thought for your friends etc.

check the pixmania feedback before you buy anything from them though.

personally I haven't had any problems but that's coz I've never had to use their CS or return anything to them but never heard a good thing about them

i think the canon 450d is a good begginers

It's cheaper at most other places (with decent reputations) like Amazon.
