I could get your a base unit for £50 (no monitor/keyboard/etc...

I have a oldish Dell... only 128 ram (but ram is dirt cheap), and i think a 1gig pentium.

IMO Ipod's need more spec than you might think.. ITUNES etc usually need downloading from the net and if you want to download media probably worth spending a little more than an "oldish dell"...

I've got a cheap PC system available:

• Abit NF-S
• AMD Athlon XP2600+
• 512MB Ram
• 40GB HD
• 256MB XFX Nvidia 6200 graphic
• 1 x DVD-RW (NEC 3571) can burn up DL DVD to 16x.
• 5.1 sound
• LAN (network onboard)
• PCI USB 2.0 card (x4) for more usb ports
• Normal wired keyboard and mouse or wireless ones at your choice

Windows XP Professional SP2 can be installed. I can throw in a 17" CRT monitor for free as well.

I'm looking for £70 if you can stretch. Item should ideally be collected in Manchester area due to weight.

If I can find a more basic graphic card (like Geforce MX400 or something) to swap the 6200 I'll look for £60.

I can't drive either, and the postage cost (£15 with Parcelforce) makes it not worth a sale. Could you take a train (day return would be about £6.50) to Piccadilly or Stockport, I can meet you up there for collecting the unit.

I found this:

There is another service, sold on eBay by a seller called Payperdrop_uk, which provides an economy delivery with DHL for £5.99 per parcel with maximum size 120 x 60 x 60 cm. As with most things in life, you get what you pay for. The service is not time guaranteed, so DHL might decide to keep it in the van for a week just for the fun of it. And should something go wrong, then don't expect any help from payperdrop, and certainly don't expect to get much satisfaction on the 0870 numbers of DHL customer service. It's also worth bearing in mind that sellers of ultra cheap parcel services do have a habit of suddenly disappearing and taking your money with them, simply because they're selling it too cheap and go bust or they lose the account with the courier. Payperdrop will be good while it lasts, but it entirely depends on you and your attitude to risk whether you use them.

*** UPDATE 28/11/07: Payperdrop appears to have lost its account with DHL. I suggest you avoid them ***

Not really want to use them anyway. Well, in my opinion, £50 for pick up at Manchester Piccadilly is the best option. It's up to you.

Problem with this scenarion is itunes needs windows xp and as s/h xp licences can fetch up to £40 on fleabay, you would be looking at approx £10 worth of hardware, unless you use dubious software then you really don't want to connect it to the net
Is there a linux itunes yet?
