I would recommend getting a branded one; tom tom, garmin etc, some of the individual shops such as House of Fraser etc sell their own models but they're not upto the same standard.
congrats on the 1200 posts!

I picked up a brand new TomTom ONE Classic from eBuyer.com for £75 delivered. Trust me, its the business. Does the job and does it well. :)

op, no difference between a sat nav and a tom tom.. as a 'tom tom' IS a sat nav..
just like how an 'ipod' is an mp3 player - same thing-
'tom tom' is the 'brand name' like 'garmin' is .. but saying that, tom tom im sure is the market leader
good luck with the search

Get a Navigo half the price of tomtom and will take tomtom software amongst others,You can have 3 or 4 different sat nav softwares on them.

I'm also looking for a sat nav. What's the difference between Tom Tom V2, V3, V4? They all seem to be still on sale. Where's the cheapest place to buy a Tom tom one with Uk and Europe maps?

Also do u have to pay for map updates or can u download for free?

we went to look at the half price ones in halford but the had all been reduced to about £100+ from £200+ and it said the downloads cost £25 a time, the cheap one off ebuyer I think you can download the updates for free, can anyone confirm? thanks
