Looking for an SSD to restore our backup onto (which hopefully will prove more robust) - as cheap as possible as we are a small group - but needs to be at least 100GB due to all the pictures and resources stored on the laptop...

Do not buy a used SSD from CeX as they'll likely be close to death - their buy prices are so low for SSDs that you'd only sell to them if you couldn't sell anywhere else. They only SMART test them and HDTune them.

Amazon ftw, try find the £25 ones from Integral otherwise, there's some still on eBay iirc. Otherwise I have a spare 64GB I could do cheap.

yes the £25 integral deal would have been perfect - back to £35 now so was hoping a public spirited HDUK'er might help me out ...

64GB wont cut it unfortunately - only had 8GB free on the dead 80GB HDD - luckily it has died over the summer holidays so nothing has been updated since the pre-summer backup!

Ah OK, I guess hope another one comes up!

why does it have to be an ssd? more likely to get a freebie for a normal drive. might even have a 120gb in the house?

SSD purely as from ebay etc you pay around £15-8 delivered for a used 160GB HDD, a cheap SSD shouldnt be much more and would be more "Scout proof" ...

I'd happily accept a free 130-160GB HDD!

Thanks, but I think I'm sorted - somerandomguy has kindly offered to send me a couple of 120GB hdds - I have an old external enclosure lying about so that will restore the laptop and give an extra backup drive / spare fore if the laptop drive dies again

Of course if you had a another drive going spare, I'm sure I could make use ...

Huge thanks somerandomguy - all received today (impressibly packed), HDtune checked and currently churning through a windows 8.1 install (the lastest the Inspiron BIOS will support). Your a top guy.
