Consoles? I thought there may be a problem, I do have the arguement that its only for imported games, but there probably a problem with that....
#4
Only copied game discs are prohibited on here. Chipped consoles are allowed, the last time that I checked.

Thats what I thought- but its all high security on here ;)
#6
how much would you be thinking to pay anyway...
#7
The seller states the price, not the buyer.

Seller usually states price and price will depend on condition, games etc.

There's no such thing as a chipped game. He's asking for a chipped console. A chipped console would allow you to play import games or backup/copied/pirated (depending on the context or what you want to call them) games. As he's mentioned he wants to play foreign games, I'd assume he's asking for an imported game to be included with the console. There's absolutely nothing illegal about that, and as for this particular forum, I can't see that it's against the rules. Under 'Prohibited trades' it lists 'Console Cards/Pandora type batteries/PS3 Jailbreak Devices', but mentions nothing about console modchips or hard modded consoles - and flashed Xbox 360s and both soft- and hard-modded Wiis are sold on here quite often.

Thank you and breadboy- some people that are nice and not trolls- yes I want it for import games such as Chrono cross and other Final fantasy games that didnt come out for PAL or are cheaper than the PAL version- I like the good stuff :)

Just to clarify for any prospective sellers and the OP as your request is slightly ambiguous - members cannot sell unlicensed games that could only be played on a 'chipped' console, only officially licensed media is permitted, so whilst you can request a console you cannot request a game to be included unless its an official PS1 game disc, thanks.

No i didnt mean you I like constructive criticism- makes me a better user as atm im not a too gooder one with the rules :( For the admin yes I meant a Liscenced American or Japanese game to check that I can play foreign games on it. Not that I will use it for copied games, but I am a collector- copies are useless to me- I like the real deal, no copies wii downloads or any of that :)

OP: if no luck on here, then I would try Gumtree. I bought an SCPH-1002 model PS1 (in excellent conition) + controllers and memory cards and a few original games for £10 about 6 months ago on Gumtree. I was specifically looking for the original SCPH-1002 model since it allows you to do an easy swap trick at the CD player in the BIOS, by inserting an original disc, holding down the sensor in the top corner and switching for your copied disc. When I got home and tried it all out, I forgot to keep the sensor down the whole time (only did it momentarily with my finger), but it still worked anyway; it turned out that the console was actually chipped already (although it wasn't stated in the advert)!

That was a case of me getting lucky, but you could always message the seller asking them if it's chipped.

I would prefer to get an already chipped one as I'll be playing it on and off quite a bit and dont want any hassle.

And Parasite Eve! Get that if you haven't already played it, it's a great game - it's the reason I got my original PSX chipped. It never came out on the UK. Parasite Eve 2 did, but it's lame compared to the first one.
A viable alternative would be to just buy an NTSC Playstation, although having one that plays everything is more convenient. Have you got any soldering experience? I modded a PSX myself (years ago!) and it was quite easy because it was only 4 wires and quite large points to solder to. Not sure where on Earth you'd get a modchip from these days, though... It's amazing how people automatically think 'Piracy!' as soon as you mention a modified console when there's other reasons for having one. I've got a friend who is a video games developer, so he's the last person in the world who would pirate a game, but he's got an R4 for the DS so that he can play around writing software for it. It will always be a legal grey area.

Oh, that reminds me - you can also get some cheat cartridges that allow you to boot import/backup games if you put an original, same region game in first, load up to the cartridge's menu, then swap the disk. It's basically the swap trick, but made incredibly easy because the cartridge stops the disk for you at the right point and you've got forever to swap the disks because it won't start again until you click Start. I can't remember the name of the cartridge I had, but it was a cheap one and it still did the job.

Yeh- anytime you want to enjoy the "good" games (damn you PAL!) you get accusations thrown at you- does a modded PS1 have the problems like a converter for the SNES has? (doesnt play some games) I shall have a look at that game- Im always after new games to add to the collection :) Thanks for your help.

The "double swap" trick which kev_u8701r refers to is damaging to both the hardware and the discs themselves, since you have to snatch the disc from the spinning drive motor at a very sepcific moment. The cheat cartridges are a decent alternative since they actually stop the disc for you (like reddragon105 mentioned), allowing you to swap, but the only disadvantage is the fact that games with mutiple discs will not work if they require you to swap at some point while still in-game, instead of giving you the option to load up a saved game on the next disc. For those games absolutely requiring an in-game swap (e.g., Metal Gear Solid), you would need a chip.

Edit: Also, if you are going to play 60Hz (NTSC) games then ensure that you have an RGB SCART cable, otherwise you will get an image in black and white! The standard composite cable (and also that even more inferior RF trash bundled with the originals...) will not work. You will also enjoy a much clearer picture by upgrading to a decent RGB cable.

Edit2: You will be able to play all games fine, assuming that they do not have modchip protection. If this is the case with a particular game, you will to to apply a PPF patch, or use a cheat code. I have an imported copy of Metal Gear Solid: Integral and was not able to play even my original copy due to the mod protection. To get around this, I used an Xplorer cheat cartridge with Caetla installed on it to enable cheats to disable the protection. MGS does not have a patch to remove the protection available, so I had to use the cheats for it whenever I play.

Oh yes, thanks for pointing that out. I should have remembered that, because I'd just mentioned Parasite Eve and that's on 2 disks, so I had exactly that problem. That's why I eventually went for a modchip. I also needed to buy a scart cable to play Parasite Eve after spending a while wondering why it was in black and white... I know the Action Replays don't officially let you do the swap trick - they don't stop the disks, but they do still pause the loading indefinitely in the right place, so it still works. The cards that officially supported it, however, used to come with springs to hold the lid open and the button underneath it down, so your PSX thought the lid was closed.

racso888 - if you like RPGs, definitely check out Parasite Eve. It's a Squaresoft game, roughly described as Final Fantasy meets Resident Evil. I remember the graphics being awesome for the time, and it has a great soundtrack. It recently came out on the Japanese PSN, so hopefully European PS3 owners will be able to get it soon, but as of this moment, an imported PSX copy is still the only way to play it.

Still, I wouldn't take my chances with that method, and it is certainly just much easier to get a cartridge or modchip. Even if they do cost something, they are certainly worth it.

Thanks for all the help- ill have a look at the game as I love square soft- I own final fantasy 2 and 3- thats why I love Square Enix and have final fantasy 7- just never got into it, would like to though.
