Wanted: Decent but cheap(ish) AV reciever (budget £500)

£0.00 @
Looking to buy a cheapish but decent HD receiver. Something like like Onkyo 606 or Denon 1909 or similar. The most I am willing to spend is about £500.

The Onkyo 606 is £399 in Richer Sounds, but the 506 is only £194 - can you really justify the difference ?

The Denon 1909 is £369

If you need the features that the 606 has, then yes: - audio over HDMI, onboard decoding of HD formats, e.t.c.

The new Sony receivers are getting rave reviews at the moment. The Sony STR-DA2400ES seems to be very well regarded at £400 RRP

You can't receive HD audio over optical. Optical has a maximum bandwidth of 1.5mbps. HD audio soundtracks are typically 6.5mbps at the moment.

Yeah there is quite a jump between the two in price but also in features. As Heavertron pointed out.

Yeah those were the two I was looking at. I don't really want to pay full RRP for the 606 as it was selling for £300 not too long ago, I know the prices have gone back up but still, not long till the 607 is out. The trouble with the 1909 is that it has to be purchases instore and I have no decent AV store any where near me, so I was hoping to pick up one used.

Haven't really considered a Sony but I guess I should. Obviously my budget will stretch further than the models mentioned if buying used. I need audio over HDMI and HD format decoding.

So has anyone got anything for sale?

Cool,

Still not something I am bothered about personally.
