Wanted: Dell PC Restore CD?

Hi,

Does anyone have a Dell PC Restore CD by Symantec (for Microsoft Windows XP)? I didn't get one with my Dimension 3000 and need to restore some settings after experiencing the dreaded BSOD.

Looking to borrow (covering postage costs)...

Cheers

I have a new sealed genuine dell xp pro restore pack I can sell you for £5?

Is that how you restore the factory settings? My dell dimension 5000 has just corrupted (xp home won't load up fully and stops at the start up screen)

Would I need the dell restore cd or would I need the os cd?

Cheers.

Have you considered the possibility of a hardware fault? XP doesn't often stop working for no reason, or is there something you did to cause it?

you could just ring up dell.
i did that and i was farrrrrr out of the warranty but they still sent me it.
my computer came to infected to use it though :(

have you checked to see if there is a recovery partition on your machine, nowadays a lot of systems from dell, compaq etc have imaged recovery partitions built in as standard to assist with repairs in times like these. should be an f key prompt when you first start (F11 maybe)

failing that, any XP disc will recover the os for you if you know how and a search on dells website for your model will supply all the extras you would of had on the disc free of charge

http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_CEL_3000&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid= :-D

not much help perhaps but I know it'll save time waiitng on getting the dell disc from someone perhaps ;-)

The Dimension 3000 doesn't have a recovery partition but should have made a disk when he first received the machine.
Very true the recovery console can be found on any XP disk, just download it of the net.
The drivers can be found here

Does the license sticker on the side/back of your computer say Windows XP Pro or Home?

Just phone up Dell and ask for one.

They should be able to send you one, may cost a few pounds but it will be the "proper" recorvery disk for that PC.

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies. I couldn't get into safe mode and no new hardware/software had been added. I'm pretty sure it's infected with a virus. I will give tech support a call on mon (was hoping to avoid the 0870 costs and queues).

Rep given.

Use saynoto0870.com for the landline number of dell switchboard and ask to put through to the relevant department - no need for the 0870
