Hi, I dont know if you are in the North West, but this morning I bought this Panasonic LS80 digital Camera (8mp) from QVC (birchwood / Warrington) FOR £49.99 Brand new & quite a few in stock)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-DMCLS80-Digital-Camera-Optical/dp/B0014FNQAG/

BEEN PLAYING WITH IT AND IT'S VERY GOOD FOR UNDER £50.....
I think there is a QVC in Shrewsbury too.

Don't use megapixels as an indicator of quality... All cameras today (except cell phones) have plenty of pixels. The case could even be made that a 2mp phone has more pixels than its crappy lens can effectively resolve. In consumer cameras, image quality is not correlated to the pixel count. (Compare a 6mp Nikon D40 to any 10mp compact camera.)

I would much rather have a 4Mp camera with a quality lens than a 10Mp camera with a crap lens.

really not a fair test comparing a compact to a dSLR though is it?
As they have different size sensors, you dont expect dSLR quality from a compact...

Yes it is true about a quality lense, thus a schneider lens (kodak), carl zeiss (sony), pentax (their own), etc will usually get a much better picture quality shot then a hitachi, concord, and other 'lesser' makes of lenses.

It is a fair comment, although I copied this text. A lot of people that buy Digital Cameras think that the Mp is the only factor and do not understand the importance of the lens. There are people that buy digital cameras that do not know what a Single Lens Reflex camera is, and they do not need to. But they do need to understand the importance of lens quality

Canon Olympus and Nikon will also have good quality lenses as well
