I'd be tempted to go to Lloyds Chemists and see what offers they've got in-store. Online they have a ear one for £13.99 made by Nurofen, a forehead one for £9.99 and a digital mouth one for £6.99. It's a shame you don't know anyone that needs one too, as they seem to sell a 2 pack of the ear one for £20, so £10 each.

I personally wouldn't have a secondhand one of these, just buy new if possible.

yeh i did think that, but my next door is a nurse and she said that most ear ones come with disposable covers for the ear bit, so shouldnt be any problems having a second hand one, i am happy to buy a new one, as last night scared me to death, and would have been able to handle the situation a little better if i knew what her temp was? but as i had no clue, and when they checked was 40+ and she had had calpol, and was stripped right off!!! very scary! I just thought id see if anyone had one they dont use anymore :)

I feel for you!! I've been there with my own little ones in the past. You did the right thing though and phoned for an ambulance. My wifes a nurse and last year my neighbours came round because her 4 month old was burning up. My wife knows exactly what she's doing, but still insisted on the ambulance being called.

Hope everything goes well for you and the baby and yes you can get the end covers for the ear thermometers from Lloyds at £1.00 for 40, so yes secondhand should be fine.
