I can offer you a used USB enclosure for a "slimline" IDE/PATA optical drive for £10 delivered.

All you have to do is find an old laptop and add it's DVD drive to the enclosure.

Don't have any old laptops lying round, all scrapped or sold, thanks a lot for the offer though

Is it like this here:

If so I am interested, any pictures? Also does it work with OS X?

Thanks

I have a slimline dual-layer rewriter for £25 if you're interested. It shows up as a Lite-on 8x DVD-RW when plugged into Windows. Nearly new - not needed now as I should be getting my Freecom drive back from repair soon (also a Lite-on drive inside).

Thanks for the offer, and this is the type I would prefer (slimline drive) but £25 is more than I expected, any budge on price?

I've just tested this, as you were interested in using it with a Mac. Unfortunately it's not compatible. Eject works good, but it won't play back DVDs. :-( Works great in Windows though.

Okay I'll have to leave it then, thanks a lot for the offer though.

Alictait, do you know if yours is mac compatible? tried looking around to find out but I can't find anything.

Sorry, no idea if Mac compatible. Postage is going to be a few quid so would rather stick at the £18 mark.

It has an external PSU though just to be clear. Picture also make the scratches look worse than they are due to the flash.

After much consideration I'll have to leave it mate, thanks for the offer but I'm ideally looking for a portable one powered by usb. Plus I would need one which definitely works with OS X

Is it fair to assume that an Xbox HD Dvd drive isn't MAC compatible?

Edit-according to this it works - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_HD_DVD_Player

Yeah I believe it is compatible, but I've heard that it's only readable and not writable.
