Im looking for a external hard drive over 250gb.

or even better would be a media player hard drive which allows you to watch movie on your tv without having to burn onto disk.

Can I suggest an internal IDE drive - (around £35) and an old xbox running XBMC. Will play all your media on the TV over a network and there's space to store music, films and games (plus emulators) too!

hi mate i've got a buffalo external hard drive in a drawer at home. Im pretty sure it's a 250gb one but i'll confirm when i get home it's got a few scratches on the casing coz it's quite old but it doesn't affect the functionality. Here's a link to it on amazon: - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Buffalo-HD-HB250U2-1-Drivestation-250gb-External/dp/B0007R6CGC/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1209735474&sr=8-14

as used are 65 how does £55 plus shipping sound?

£57.99 for a 500gb external Western Digital at ebuyer here

I too would strongly recommend a modified XBMC xbox, no need to install a larger hard drive as you can network it and play the files directly from your pc.

I have 3 about my house and could maybe be persuaded to part with one for £40 + delivery.

The internal hard drive is only 8gb, however it isn't used at all really as I have it networked with my pc for media. You can use the hard drive on it to hold games or any of your media (songs, pics, movies etc.) as desired, its not something I have yet tried but it is fairly easy to do. (lots of guides) It also looks very easy to install a larger hard drive if you need to but I personally only utilise it as a network drive with a homeplug network kit. It plays almost everything. I wish I discovered them years ago as I have only been an aficionado for a few months but have since got one in my living room, bedroom and kitchen. I have even replaced my HTPC with an xbox and since sold it for £275 (which was actually quite a bargain as it was an elonex artisan).

I would include a controller and the necessary leads for connection to a TV and I'm sure I could throw in a game aswell. I need to check the CD tray on the one I would sell for £40 though as it occasionally sticks.

I have another Xbox Crystal though which was the latest original Xbox made which also has a modified fan in it (much much quieter), however id be looking for about £55 + delivery for this one. The general specs are the same, however the machine is newer and the fan makes a big difference.

Look into the info on XBMC, if you wanted to you could always buy yourself a cheap Xbox locally, I know that Cash convertors had them at £25, - £35 for crystal - I would be happy to point you in the right direction of how to do it. Its the time factor involved that is the issue - especially the first time. I have seen an xbox with Internet explorer on it also, however can't seem to find any info at all about it.

Let me know what you would like to do, but as previously mentioned I really can't rate XBMC enough - its fab (hence why I have 3).

You don't have a spare chip do you? I killed one trying the RAM upgrade and I'm now short of a box for the bedroom!

You don't need to have a chip in them anymore. Two of mine do and I also have a soft modded one. The soft modded one is every bit as good as the others.

To soft Mod look up "NDURE Soft Mod", on xbox scene HERE..
