Story goes my bro decided he would try and fix is 60gb ps3 with his no knowledge of ps3's he got the unit to play Dvd's again but not blu-rays then he fiddled to much and killed the motherboard on the blu-ray drive as I can't get any power to it.

So Im after a faulty ps3 that i'm only after the working blu-ray drive from. Its a long shot but we shall see.

My 60Gb blu-ray drive died too. But I replaced mine with sony rather then doing it myself. Plum

be wary that there are two types of lasers for the ps3 atm (i think one for early 60gb that gets 2 lens and another for the 40/80gb which gets one lens) and i have no idea on the compatablity between them.
are ps3 not similar to xbox's to stop piracy? you cannot swap drives on a xbox as they are locked to the motherboard (obviously you can flash xbox drives but not aware of anything like that on the ps3)
Yeah the drive is matched to the consoles motherboard. Are you selling this faulty PS3?
Would be a hell of a lot cheaper to join Continuous Play ;-)
was going to suggest that aswell!
No good that my brothers opened it now and lost screws on the drive. Im going to phone sony on monday to find out if there is anything they can do, as all they are doing is replacing the whole BD and cables, as I think my brothers even slightly damaged the cables.

Dont tell them that ! Just report that the Blue Ray has stopped working. Theyll send out a refurb one by mailman and only pick your old one up when they deliver the new one. By the time they get it back in their warehouse youll have your new one anyway. Ignorance is bliss ;-)

Remember, the Continuous Play scheme covers units that are way out of warranty. So your unit could be second, third even forth hand. As far as your concerned youve never taken it apart, but some else previously might have ;-)

All Sony care about is that youve got a working unit so you can spend your cash on games. Theyll just repair your old unit and ship it out to the next punter who has a broken one. Also the courior doesnt check over your old unit, he just bags it up and returns it to Sony - hes just a regular mailman !

Nice suggestion but not something im willing to do.

Dishonesty just isn't me.

If I can't i'll sell the unit, its a 60gb version which wouldn't be replaced anyway.

Yep it would be replaced. Sony replace 60gig models with 60gig models.

If your that honest though no worries. TBH Id have no probs seeing that Sony are a massive company with a turnover of billions and billions each year. What difference does a £300 unit for one person make to them. A drop in the ocean.

Having spoke to Sony a lot of times in the past i can tell you that if you want them to repair the unit it will cost you a grand total of £150. Other option is selling it - looking at ebay youd most probs get about £120 for a faulty one.
I had a new blu-ray drive off them on me other for £100, they didn't replace the unit.
