Wanted: Faulty Sky HD receiver

Well, my HD box has given up the ghost. So I am looking for another faulty receiver that I can salvage parts from, to fix my own box.

If anyone has a faulty HD box that is out of warranty, so is pretty much useless to you, then please post a brief description of what is wrong with your box so I can make a judgement as to whether it may be of use for me as spares.

Thanks.

Think it's the power board.

Was stuck in standby. Tried a forced download, which started, HDD kicked in, but after about 60secs it switched itself off (or, most likely, fused).....now it won't power up at all, as it continually fuses at the plug

Try and change the red sata lead (cost about a quid). I had the same problem and all fine now.
The sata lead may just want straighting and replugging in. Hope it's that simple for you:)

Thanks for the tip, I have a few spare SATA leads so will try it, but not holding my breath.
I had not opened up the box until the box started fusing and since opening the box I've checked all the connectors are firmly seated (power to mainboard, power to HDD and SATA from mainboard to HDD) so can't see that the lead would have 'perished'.

What did this solve for you? The stuck-in-standby problem? Or did your box keep fusing the wallplug?

MY box (and 2 freinds others) kept switching off after only being on for about 30 mins, then wouldn't come on then for about 15mins. changed my sata lead and never got the problem again. One of my freinds just straighted his lead out and the same problem was rectified. It is a pretty common problem with shy hd aparently

Tried changing the SATA lead but didn't help. Thanks for the suggestion, anyway.

Definitely the power board;
Some component popped and sparked on it (and fused my 4th power lead) this time so I can safely say my power board is dead.

Blimey matey, nice find.

I've ended up going to sky for a one off £65 repair/replace option with 12 month warranty.
I wasn't aware the £65 to sky was a flat fee and included 12 month warranty......

I might have gone the 'repair myself option' if I hadn't already arranged for Sky to come out......

Mind you, I suppose the extra £40-£45 I'm prepared to pay for that additional 12 month warranty, especially if the engineer that comes replaces the box rather than just repair it.

Anyway, Gaz, thanks for the pointer, I was under the impression that Thompson spares were hard to source so didn't even consider searching for a supplier of such spares.

P.S to anyone else who stumbles across this thread, I'm sorted now so consider my 'Wanted' request closed.
