Does anyone have a fish tank they no longer want?

Im after a small rectangle one, i want to start keeping african land snails, only want to keep one or two.

If anyone has a one which is taking up space i would be grateful if i could have it for free! Im happy to pay for a courier.

I know its a long shot but if you dont ask you dont get! I have already tried the local freecycle.

Im based in bristol.

Nahh, i think they look good fun to keep!

You know the proper big ones.

What do snails actually do then?

If you can teach it to play fetch I'll be impressed!

If you happen to be in Birmingham any time soon I can give you as many of these snails as you want for free! My two adults have bred and the little guys are growing fast.

Also I can give you a small glass tank that would hold quite a few babies or probably 2-3 adults comfortably.

I (heart) snails.

posting a tank would be very hard!!! they get thrown around in the lorries and would have to have some mega buble wrap on them!

Are they easy to keep?

Mitchwales, chia might be able to explain what snails do!

They are very easy to keep. You will need a soft substrate like soil for them to dig in (they like to burrow sometimes). Mist the inside of the tank with a spray-bottle of water every day or every other day to keep their environment moist. Provide them with fresh vegetables (some also eat fruit) at all times, but take out rotting items. Also you need to make sure there is always a cuttlefish bone in the tank - they will gnaw on this for calcium for their shells. If you do a Google on them you'll find some good info.

Mitchwales - they provide you with love and affection, of course!
...OK, maybe not, but they are fascinating to watch as they slime around and devour cucumber slices. Also will "walk" around on your hand/arm.

hi, jus incase u dont know, these snails have both male n female bits and can breed even if on there own! so the possibility of u keeping 1or 2 is very unlikely and u could end up with 100's before u know it. i was gonna get my ds some but changed my mind once i know this. hth

go to this site.....
http://www.localbargainfinder.co.uk/
put your postcode in and do a search, it wil take you to ebay where you find cheap items in your local area
and its really good for items that arent worth that much compared to postage, like a fish tank

This is not actually true - they do alternate between male and female, but it still takes two snails to breed. HOWEVER, they breed when one shoots a "sperm dart" into the other one's skin, and the sperm can remain in that snail's body for quite a while - I have read that this can be up to two years.

So, if your snail has been kept in the same tank as another snail when sexually mature, you could end up w/ babies even after it's on its own. I'm not sure exactly when they are sexually mature, but mine did not breed until they reached what seems to be their full size (a little over 3 inches). We had them for at least a few months before that and there were no eggs.

If you do get hold of a possibly fertile snail, or want to have two, just check every few days for eggs in the substrate. They are small, white and round and might be buried. Take them out and freeze them, then dispose of them.

I've got one, with a lid and lamp holder, but I'd want £20 for it.(might trade if you've got any xbox 360 or DS games?) Not sure of the exact size, possibly 18" but I'd have to check. Just up the road from you in Stroud so could meet you halfway to save courier costs.
Let me know if you're interested. I can text you some pics.

 just going off what i have been told, but even with 2 there is still a chance of ending up with loads of babies!
