The digital AV out on the gamecube will give better picture quality, but the cables go for crazy amounts on ebay.
Anyone who has one that they no longer need/use, I'd love to take it off your hands.

It's the progressive scan (480p) one, it's kinda rare;-)

These go for a song and dance on Ebay, really rare, especially in the UK seeing there was only a handful of releases here that supported 480P unlike US and Japan.

Also as Nintendo cheapened the manufacture they removed the digital output on later revision Gamecube consoles too. I actually having a limited edition pearl console swapped the innards with an older black one I had that had digital output before trading it in, just so in the future If I had the option to get a component cable I would....however since having a Wii and not seeing the prices of these rare cables go down, I just use my Wiikeyed Wii instead

If you have a Wii that has a Wiikey or other, you would to be honest do just as well playing any US Gamecube games in progressive scan on that using a component cable with that.

Never understood though why there has never been a third party cable.

I assume by a handful you mean none right? NO PAL Gamecube games support progressive scan.

And probably because the Gamecube market wasn't particularly hot like the Wii is and many retailers dropped it early on in it's life. Combine this with the fact that in the Gamecubes life the percentage of the Gamecubes consumers that also owned TV's capable of displaying 480p was very low.

Sorry I should have mentioned, that some PAL games can be forced into progressive scan using certain modchips like the Qoob.

Still was very odd of Nintendo not to cheapen the hardware of the GC from the outset in PAL territories, seeing that natively PAL releases have 480p crippled.

Kind of ironic to think, as you state retailers dropped the GC quite early on (DSG being the main culprit) and yet the Wii is a major success......

Owning both, would have to argue, speaking as a gamer...which one was better for GAMES!!

As criticised before, whilst a marketing success, Nintendo have sidelined their talent in producing quality games to appeal to a wider audience.

Back to the original thread.....I somehow doubt anyone that is lucky enough to own one that could sell it on Ebay would want to see it go as low as £15

Well I did state *or more* lol. Here's hoping.

I am amazed though there never has been a cheap third party alternative manufactured.
