WANTED - Laptop (2.5") IDE Hard Drive £10.00

Hey all.

I'm after a laptop size (2.5") IDE (Not SATA) hard drive.

Doesn't have to be huge. 20gb or larger will be fine. Just has to be in good working order and of course cheap (especially if it's old!)

Let me know what you have. Not really willing to pay much for the old tech. Maybe around the £10 mark. Still, if you're not using it you may as well get rid!

I have an 80GB Seagate Momentus 4200.3 2.5" IDE drive. Would be looking at £25 delivered though.
#2
Cheers Simon. Anybody got anything smaller/cheaper?
#3
Anybody else?

Cex have 20gb for £15, 30gb for £18, 40gb for £20.
#5
Cheers Gavin, I'd never be too confident purchasing from there though!

Why? You have 12 months warranty with cex. If you buy something from someone on here you have no backup.
#7
This is true, but I don't really want the hassle of returning things to them. I wouldn't exactly be confident they're sifting through the SMART data for discrepancies.

Simon_G - I'll offer £18 for your drive.

Stanglish - Thanks for the offer but could only drop down to £22 delivered at the most. Want to come out with something after delivery. :)

*sigh* Of course its not gonna cost £22 to deliver it, but via recorded delivery and with adequate packaging its gonna gost £3+. I'd like to come out with £20 after delivery costs, hence wanting to sell it for £22 delivered.

If you can meet halfway at £20 Simon, we have a deal.

£21 is as low as I really can go here. I'll take paypal gift too if that helps?
#14
What was the manufacture date on the drive mate?
#15
The only date on it says 07054
#16
Odd. 2004 maybe? Sorry for all the hassle, but I've worked in IT for years and know exactly how bad drive failure is :)

If you could get the dates from this, that would be perfect

Its an OEMdrive so does not show any information on the segate warranty page you linked to unfortunately.
#18
Unfortunate. Any idea on the age at all?

Seagate don't seem to want people to how to work out the date manufacture from there date code but this on is 01/08/2006.

Here is how to work it out.

YY: fiscal year, beginning on the 1st Saturday of July YY-1
W[1-9] or WW[10-52]: fiscal weeks from 1st Saturday of July YY-1
D: days from the beginning of week WW (weeks run from Saturday to Friday)

Or an applet written by paw for people who cant use a calender!

Cracking advice there Gavin! Appreciated. Since it's under 3 years I'll take it. Sorry Dante!

Can you message me your paypal details Simon?
#22
You have funds Simon!

Just an update. Simon sent the drive and RM recorded shows it as being accepted at his local post office. Then it didn't update for almost two weeks after which it shows as being returned to him.

Now they haven't left a red slip or reflected that they attempted to deliver it so I can only presume either they couldn't find the address (very odd) or maybe the parcel or label was damaged so as to make it illegible.

Simon, I have sent you a couple of messages on this and had no reply. Please get in touch asap so I know you're still about! In theory you should be receiving it back from the RM soon.
