'big willy style' - please don't post anymore on this thread.

For everyone else, I'm not looking for anything high spec - just cheap and cheerful that's good for basic functionality.

I have an acer that might be up your street, where are you based?

try freecycle or a refurb model. even pc world have ex display discontinued stock if you ask

hey juliet, you ok chick? long time x

Thanks everyone for the help - I was trying very hard not to take the bait.

I don't think it's such an absurd request anyway - from what I've seen you can get decent new laptops for approx £300 to £400, and I'm just after something second hand capable of basic tasks.

Dell L400?

12", 733MHz, 256MB RAM, Battery lasts 30-60mins, AC Adaper, No Hard Disk though.

I can supply a Dell XP restore disk, but it's not easy getting XP installed on a laptop without a CD drive. This isn't for you unless you're good with computers!

I have an Acer Aspire 5040, 1.8Ghz, 1.5Gb Ram.

I formatted the hard drive and lost all of the drivers! oops!

I'm currently using an external wireless card as I can no longer get the internal one to work! Also the DVD rom drive doesn't always work. Cosmeticlaly the laptop is in good condition.

Looking for £140

Hi mate, I have a Dell 250n you can buy:

15" diag. TFT screen
Intel Pentium (R) 4 processor CPU 2.40 GHz
512Mb RAM
40 GB hard disc
CDDVD/CD-RW DRIVE
Genuine Windows XP Home Edition
Genuine MS WORKS CD (still sealed)
All original DELL installation CD's
Laptop case

Downsides are the speakers don't appear to work (headphones do), the n key is missing (I have replaced it with the fn key) and it has an unlicensed version of XP professional installed and I appear to have lost the home CD (but genuine product key is on the back so all you need is to but the disk or borrow it). Oh and I lost the blank cards that go in the PCMCIA slots...

But that can be easily wiped, its still a freaking bargain!
I bought one from here a few months ago for only like £15 less with worth specs (1.5G proc, no batter life etc) in fairly ****** condition and a faulty screen!
If I needed a laptop I would snap this up, and enoucrage the OP to do the same, especially if you can pick this up...
If the OP doesnt want this I may still be interested actually..if only to not have the hassle of starting my PC to check my emails in the morning..

I'm in the south east, Stevenage area just off the A1.
I've just bought a refusbished laptop on impulse, probably due to spending too much time on here!!
Will try and get the specs on here tomorrow but basically it has WIFI, 30gig drive, celeron processor and a legal copy of xp. Also has some software you may want too.
Downside is the dvd re-writer only seems to work sometimes and when the laptop is on its side! It's not been a problem for me because I used an external pen drive to transfer any files or software I've needed to load.

I think Tazxxx is a bargain as long as the Os getss sorted out.. otherwise look at bigpockets.co.uk for laptop tarting at £114, so nearly in ure price range!!!

Ha ha indeed. I am not sure how it ended up with XP pro on it, I must have been bored at uni. All you need is a chum with the XP Home CD (or find a torrent) and you'll be legit before you know it!
