You won't really get a 512mb dx10 gaming laptop for less than £1000, even if it is used, as the 512mb cards haven't been out long at all.

Cheapest I could find with a 512mb card in was £1173.83

T7700 processor, 2GB ram, 160gb HD, 8700M GT, 1920x1200 screen also.

I've heard reasonably good things about Zepto, and have just bought one of their laptops myself (only had it a few days but so far I've been v.impressed). They're a Danish company that sell direct to the UK.

They have two models with a 512MB NVIDIA Geforce 8600M card, the 14.1" Znote 6224W, and the 15.4" Znote 6625WD.

Their prices are very reasonable, especially as you can configure the notebooks to have whatever configuration you want . They also often have some great offers - for instance, this weekend you can get the following:

Znote 6625WD - Graphics

15,4" WSXGA+ 1680x1050 - 6625WD
NVIDIA® Geforce 8600M GT
120GB 7200rpm SATA Harddisk Samsung®
Zepto Zpro 300Mbit Wifi Card (ABGN)
SAMSUNG DVD-RW DL
12 months pick up & return
6 Cell Battery
2.00 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 800MHz
2GB (2x1024) DDR2 667/PC5300 RAM
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium - UK

For £761.95 inc VAT

Whilst being a Danish company might put you off, they do have a specific person handling UK support. Although there is a dedicated Zepto forum, several of their staff also post in the much more active Zepto section of the notebookreview.com forums.

Whilst I wouldn't say they are the best laptops around, they are good machines (i.e. 4/5 rather than 5/5 if you know what I mean) and IMHO probably the best 14" & 15" gaming notebooks in terms of price/performance on the market.

If your interested you can visit their UK website here

IMHO Rock are a pretty good UK company. I was going to get a Rock, but unfortunately their new 15" notebook has had some teething problems and isn't up to their usual standards, which is why I ended up going for the Zepto instead. However, their 17" notebooks (like this one) often do well in magazine reviews etc. They also have a very good support forum.

Edited to add that the problems with the 15" model are down to the chassis itself rather than anything Rock has done. (Like most notebook manufacturers, Rock do not build the notebook chassis, but instead buy them from third party manufacturers.)
