I have a unibody Mac Mini 2010, upgraded to 4Gb RAM, comes with a new 320GB HDD with brand new Snow Leopard on it (The original HDD comes with 13" MBP)

Got warranty till @ mid Feb 2012.

Still have original box for it. I am looking at £480 delivered (with appropriate insurance) by Next Day courier.

Thanks

Sounds good but too expensive. Thought I would get a cheaper one knowing the mac mini refresh is immenent.

good price for a unibody as the macs hold there value unibodies on the bay atm go for around £550+ with less spec than whats been offered if your looking for somthing around the £200 mark it would be a mini from 2008-9 coreduo with either the intel chipset or the nvidia 9200 chipset if your lucky

yeah thats the unibody without VAT if it bought threw your work they will probably just claim the tax back to get it at that price but privately your best place would be ebay but even then its a lower spec than what was offered in the above post only 2gb of ram and not 4gb etc they are great little machine i use mine as a htpc and is the best one ive had small silent and handles 1080p like nothing and still stays really cool, why is it your after one ?

The £500 is inclusive of VAT. Seems to go for £550 £600 brand new everywhere else

Primary use will be a HTPC as I will be converting my DVD collection to server and want some stable system to play all my media.

Yeah the mac is a good option but there are cheaper ones like a acer revo I had one but setting xbmc to work like plex does on the mac can be a pain but I prefer plex over xbmc as it is easier to configure pulls metadata for almost anything automatically etc and the nice little thing it has is for tv shows it streams the shows theme music as you browse threw them a bit of a gimmick but a nice touch that's built in.
If you do go for one you want one with the nvidia chipset for 1080p playback and at least 2gb of ram minimum as the intel gma based one can struggle and has been known to freeze alot with bootcamp but should be fine when using plex and playing 720p and some lower bitrate 1080p movies/blu ray backups and if you are storing on a server get some home plug adapters I tried the wireless it worked but was a bit too slow for my liking especially with bigger files like avatar 3D but anyway good luck and enjoy your mac if and when you get one

i am wanting similar set up. think i may need yo wait until refresh before i can get one for my budget it sounds like.

yeah refreshes usually help with the cost of older models but can still be quite pricey but they are deffo worth the invesment and if the new model has hdmi 1.4a think i may have to upgrade myself

yeh is np i was bit weary myself before i got my mac but since i got it ive never looked back at anything else for a media center, yeah there are cheaper alternatives but dont look as good and cant be set up as quick as the mac can to be a great media center/PC it only took me 10 mins from unboxing it and pluging it in and downloading and installing plex to get it up and running and playing my tv shows and movies etc, if you have a surround system with no hdmi input but have a optical input the audio output on the rear of the mac is a combi port and takes both the normal 3.5mm headphone cable but also if you get a tos link for a optic cable (like what was used for mini disc players) u can plug it into your sound system and hey presto Dolby 5.1 and dts etc and audio from the hdmi too. i use my iphone as a remote and ipad and can watch films anywere on both too from the mac
