Wanted: macbook

I know about the Toys R Us clearout but I don't think anyone was going to get one unless they were really lucky.

I'm after a macbook capable of running windows (I'm a bit of a novice on this front so how exactly does it work) and want to spend at the very most £400.

I've had a look on ebay but no joy.

Any ideas?

Felix

It is possible using virtual machine/shell software. But if you're not into computers and messing about with them I wouldn't bother.

If this is purely about what the laptop looks like then there are some really good skins for laptops now.
Check this page for some examples:

Hope that helps?!

No wonder you had no joy on eBay at £400. You'd be lucky to find one for £600.

Thanks for the reply, shimagoza.

Nothing really to do with looks (although apple's do look nice), I think I've just matured from the PC/gaming area and would like something that's very reliable and will last for a long time to come. I hear macs are like that and the last PC laptop I had was hopelessly unreliable.

I know about the price of them adamo, that's why I came to see if anybody knew of any special secret macbook hideaways!

I've just spoted the ibooks and powerbooks which seem to be a lot cheaper. Are these viable alternatives these days?

very much so, an ibook with decent memory will run faster and smoother than most modern cheap laptop pcs. £400 should find you a g4 ibook with a 1ghz power pc processor which is fine.

Yeah for sure ibooks and powerbooks are an alternative. My wife has a G3 800mhz iBook and its great, does everything she needs to do. I myself have a G4 1ghz powerbook and it runs everything i need it to run.

And using virtual pc with windows xp im able to run any windows apps that i need to run on my mac without any issues too.

If i was you, take a look at gumtree as there are some great bargains out there, i got my powerbook for £250 and it has no problems what so ever and also a good battery life.

most of gum tree macs are scams, especially the brand new ones, watch your back, dont forget to wear a stab vest ;)
