Wanted: MOtherboard / CPU Bundle

Looking for a motherboard / cpu bundle for my mate. He currently is running a socket 462 with an XP 2500+ 1.83GHz cpu. The mobo is dying on that but he is willing to replace it which will cost up to £35 for what he wants.

So i thought i would see if anyone here has anything that they don't use any longer that is better than what he is using now.

The motherboard needs to have atleast 4 sata and use DDR ram.

We are on a budget here so nothing expensive..ie : over £50

As far as I can remember, the best socket A motherboard was the Abit NF7-S V2.0, and that only had 2 SATA ports. I don't think there where any others worth mentioning that had SATA ports at all.

Good look trying to get a Abit NF7-S V2.0 though. They are gettnig rare now.

Thanks but not looking for another socket 462..... anything is considered aslong as it's better than what he has now as mentioned above

He currently has a Soltek SL KT600 RL and says

my mate

I used this board for many computer builds at the time and it was a very good versatile board back then with no compatibility issues at all. My cpu is an XP 2500+ 1.83GHz. I don't mind paying 25 - 30 quid for a board as long as it's tried and tested

There are some new 462 boards about but again, they all seem to be the IDE type. It’s a socket 462 but it’s one of the later ones from when they introduced SATA to the boards, this board was one of the first to have SATA and all my HDD’s and DVD writers are SATA. Why not get a 775 board for £32? brand new from ebuyer.
They also have a 775 CPU dual core for £40 too might aswell pay that little bit extra to make it last longer.

Because he is on a budget and by getting those 2 items would mean he would have to get new ram also.

I am trying to find him something that all his other components will work with. ie: something that still works with ddr 1 ram

No problem.
But i think your in a pretty niche area..
Considering you want an upgrade that does use DDR, but also has 4 sata..

Personally I would bite the bullet, and upgrade, as what I have offered you is much more future proof than an old socket 462 or 754.

Thanks but he's not interested in spending this amount of money just yet.... Really looking for a P4 socket 478 or so 2.5ghz and up i think
