Got a friends little boys desktop here that urgently requires a bit more RAM. It a Fujitsu Scalio P and atm its running dog slow with just a 256 meg chip in it and integrated gfx taking up a bit of that !! Looking for some cheap, but working, RAM - either a 256 chip, a 512 chip or quite possibly 2 x 512 chips to allow him to use the machine for his homework.

Ahem... cheap as chips please... cough cough no pun intended.

how many memory slot are inside? I've got two 256mb pc3200. They're backwards compatible and would work as pc2700. Also what graphics slot is it? I ha ve a spare nvidia 5200 fx 256mb graphics card. But its agp. 25 for both or tenner for the memory. Includes delivery. Wil take photos for you too.

think ive got 2x256mb ddr, can look for you, would only want £7.50 for the pair delivered.

Not after a gfx card thanx. The machine has 2 slots for ram. TBH guys i can get a 512 chip off fleabay for £5 delivered so wasnt looking at spending much more than that. Over the past month i gave away some old ram to a guy on here for the cost of postage coz id never use it, was hoping some kind soul would do the same ;-)

Def not more than a fiver though :-)

just make sure when buying ram from ebay you don't end up buying high density ram (this can cause compatibility issues). i would buy branded used memory rather than new ones from china:thumbsup:

just a word of warning

i'll second that. to be on the safe side search for low density. but sadly its rarly sub £10. good luck though!

that was my point...thus i thought £7.50 was a fair price, but could accept £5 BT.

really need the cash in the bank atm, thus why said £5 if BT.
Also need to check what the rams are, give me 5mins and ill post back. but they were bought to go into a system and then my bro got a new system so were never used, so still sealed from cex where i bought them.

They are 2 x 256mb ddr533(pc4200), one is kingston the other is hynix (dell use). So if thats ok then im happy to accept £5 via BT.

ive got two 512mb kingston matched ram can do £8.50 delivered or £10 if you want recorded
#11
Will the pc4200 go in a machine that takes pc2700u ?
#12
yeah it will just run slower, as ive run 800mhz ram in a system which had a lower one in
#13
Hmm id sooner go for what is in there just in case. Minione what are the chips you have got... pc2700u ?
#14
it's 533mhz 333 is real old mate and probably expensive
#15
You dont know the exact number on it do you ? Im just a bit unsure coz its for a friends kid and id hate to order and it not work.
#16
faster ram will just be bottlenecked at the speed of your system, say for example your FSB on your processor is 400Mhz it will be run effectively at 400mhz, even if your FSB for example is 800mhz if you have one ram that is running at pc2700 333mhz and put in a pc4200 533mhz it will be bottlenecked by the other ram anyways.

How about this then ill send you the ram, you test it. If it doesnt work you post it back (your expense) if it works you BT me the £5?

If you're not sorted yet, I've just found 2x256Mb in an old PC under my bed - it worked last time I used the machine (a while ago now, stripped for parts!)

A fiver would be fine, PayPal gift no prob.
