WANTED : PCIE Video Card to Drive my new DELL 24" fullHD monitor

Boiught one of the DELL 24" monitors before xmas when they were on offer for £185

Just installed this weekend (it was a birthday present and the missus made me wait!) - tried playing a DVD and fine in a (small ish window) but juddery as hell on Full Screen - my old ATI 9660XT just not up to it anymore.

Looking for a replacement - preferrable an ATI with the new H264 video accelleration at a resonable price - dont need a games card - as long as it will run my Unreal Tournament 2004 at reasonable frame rates (yes, 2004 - still the best in the series).

Lokking to spend up to about £50

i have a 7800gtx with zalman cooler and fanmate controller.
if interested shall price up for you

I have the 7900gt and the 7800gtx actually outperforms on a few benchmarks but are basically the same.
But has no problem with dvds on a 24". ive even had my 7900gt running HD-DVDs, to the monitor and my HDTV. (both at same time as well.)

Also "High-definition H.264, MPEG2 and WMV-HD decode" which now includes

I have an ATI Radeon 1300 Series with 256Mb memory onboard. I use one in my PC and play DVDs etc on my 27 inch LCD TV with no issues at all.
#3
a 9660? pci-e?,
i'd double check that m8 even if it were that it would have no problem playing a dvd

i have a 3650 ati card, its dedicated to 1080p so has no problem running standard dvds

link to the card
http://www.aria.co.uk/VendorStores/Asus+ATi+Radeon+HD+3650+256MB+PCI-E+?productId=30337

its a very good card and hardly used,

a cool thing with the card is its 100% gpu dependant when decoding bluray/haddvd x264 and so on,it doesnt use the CPU like most cards.

to give you an example i have it hooked up to my HDTV 37" 1080p,i can also watch 1080p on my 24" monitor at the same time as streaming and it has never struggled once, playback is perfect.

Thats a typo - its an AGP 9600XT.

But my MOBO is an ASROCK that supports AGP and PCI-E (to allow me to transition). I got the play.com 4gb for £12.99 and got that installed as well as the MOBO supports DDR and DDR2 (tho not at the same time).

Thanks for looking out for me tho !

well i found one selling for £40 new, so i will say £25 delivered considering it has the zalman cooler on it and the fanmate controller (which are worth about £7.50-£10 second hand together.)

Deefinitely interested if price is right. Can get 512Mb Version for just under £40 from Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-11127-00-21R-Radeon-512MB-Graphics/dp/B001FB95KO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1231956690&sr=8-3) but wouldf have to wait a couple of weeks.

Interested to see what your price would be ...

what band / memoy / hieight is the card ?
What powr requiremnts does ithve (single six pin ?)
Do I have fit the fan controller, or is he Zalman temp sensing.
Has it been overclocked at all ?
Why are you selling ?

I'm always a bit wary of buying modded kit as you never know if its been a "job well done" - no offence meant...

no worries, i can imagine, it was fitted by a friend of mine (who owns a small PC shop).
The fan can be plugged straight into a 3pin supply, or into the fanmate controller which has a knob to control the speed of the fan.
Yeah requires single six pin power.
I have never overclocked it either, im not a bit game player and thus no reason to push it.
It is the 256mb version with 2xDVI + HDTV + VIVO. Also is SLI (i believe).

Height = 40mm, measured from desk to top of fan/cooler. (it is slightly under as sat on anti-static bag&bad eyes!).

Also i tested it 2 weeks ago to ensure still was working fine, as i had some interest in it (for £30 as well and collected) and i ran it for a day with no problems.

ill happily post some photos if wanted. its in good condition, as hasnt been used that much. (i know it doesnt mean much as electronics are very different to how they look! lol!)

I am interested, price seems reaonable, just the mod part making me not jump at the offer. I'm also interested in the price the other guy is looking for for the HD3650 as I thnik they are pretty close in performance but its not modded ...

know the asrock dual boards well and you need to be careful as they don't work with ALL pci-e cards as the pci-e slot is a x16size but running at quarter speed (x4), best get one to try first or arrange no work refund option
What material is it your playing? i have a machine playing 1080p and downscaling it to 720 with just an on-board nvidia 6100 setup
Try some diff codecs/players like the klite pack, remember we were playing dvds on 600mhz pentiums with nvidia 440 cards no problem so the 9600xt should breeze that.

thats interesting to know, dont quite get why they wouldnt work if the speed is slower though? or is it certain cards have to run at full speed?
Learn something new everyday!

OP - check compatability list before hand then!

i remember playing dvds on a AMD K2-500mhz with 256mb PC100, and some integrated graphics! (Did max out processor though!) and that actually would have been on my 22" CRT which would have been running @ 2048 x 1536 i believe.

Thanks to the advice posted I've discovered that by installing a different DVD playback software it works fine - was obviously a codec issue.

HOWEVER, still may be interested in a low cost performance boost - dont suppose you could go down to £20 delivered ?

thanks for the tip - new dvd playback software worked fine - guess it was a codec issue.

The 7800GTX is specifically listed as supported on the ASROCK website so should be OK.
#23
ah thats ok then!
ill go down to £22.50.

I'll have to dig out the box from the loft. Think it might be asus but I'm usng the generic ATI drivers now so cannot tell (and too busy right now to lift the lid!)

Think it is ASUS but cant be sure...

Card recieved, very well packed.

Unfortunately I cannot use as

1. Will not fit into my BACH Media Lab case
2. My power supply seems too weedy.

Off to open another thready to try and pass on ...
