wanting a remote control vehicle for my teenager lad to use when we away at caravan etc. either petrol or the nitro, it will be his first one so need be working so he then gradually build up to adding parts etc.

and no probs that mines above your budget, I could meet you half way inbetween??.
And from lots of experience, I would suggest you try to get a well known make, as parts for the cheap HK cars can be rarer than rocking horse poop!
Hpi can be pretty cheap 2nd hand, but do be prepared to replacing parts pretty often.
XTM & Traxxas seem pretty indestructible in my experience.
