A lot of the copies people have, even unknowingly, will be fake. There's a TON of cartridges out there that are just the ROM downloaded onto a correctly coloured and labelled cartridge rather than the originals made by Nintendo.

Yeah I get that. I'm probably better off just 'emulating' the game 'legally'.

Hello, most fakes out there can be really easy to avoid. I've been collecting Pokemon games for a couple of years and when buying for the Gameboy I always use eBay, and I have never bought a fake. Here are some tips to avoid them- Most scammers will be trying to emulate the American NTSC version of the games (because they are the most common). On the bottom left of the cartridge there is an ESRB rating. On ALL fakes the 'E' is thin and slanted, while on the real ones they are bold and a bit fat. Also always look for a factory imprint (small numbers imprinted on the label) these can be found on the right side of the cartridge. If light is shined on the cartridge it should be viable. Just examine the eBay image to see. There are plenty of other ways, just look up online. Hope it helped! ;)
