Wanted : Power supply for Western Digital 500GB MyBook external drive (or info on where to get one)

I'll be surprised if I get any replies here, but thought I'd ask anyway.

I own a Western Digital 500GB MyBook "Essential Edition" external hard drive.

About a year ago I lost the power supply. Didn't bother me at the time as I hadn't used it for a while and there was no important data on it.

I want to use it again now though and have been looking into getting a new power supply.

Maplins sell HD power supplies but you need to tell them exactly what voltage/connection etc. you need.
Since this info would have been printed on the power supply (that I've lost) I have no idea.

I believe these were/are fairly popular drives though, so on the off-chance that someone has one that's broken down, fancy selling me your power supply ?

Failing that, if anyone can direct me to somewhere I can buy one that will DEFINATELY work with my drive (I stress the word "definately" as I believe that using the wrong power supply on a drive can cause it to go "boom") then that would be helpful.

Obviously, if someone can give me the exact power specs I need to quote to Maplins, that would also be very useful, though they're bloody expensive for most things (I imagine they'd charge me about £20 for a power supply for a drive that cost me £50) so I'd rather that be a last resort.

Thanks in advance for any help. Won't be holding my breath though :o)

you need the whole thing + plug or just the adapter bit? i've got one from my 500gb mybook but have lost the uk plug bit, only got the us part.

the model number is ADS-24P-12-2 1224G
AC: 100-240V 50/60Hz MAX 0.7A 50VA
DC: 12V 2.0A

edit

they're on ebay but at around £16.99 for the cheapest...

Need the whole thing (all I have at the moment is the drive itself).

Thanks for the model info.

Edit : I can't even remember for sure exactly what the power supply comprised of, but was the plug bit just a standard "figure-of-eight" connection on one end of the lead and a plug on the other end ?
If so, those are easy to pick up cheap.
I presume the part you still have is the bit that plugs into the drive on one end and has the power supply on the other end (with a socket on the power supply to connect the lead I've mentioned above) ? I'm half-guessing here....

2nd that. It is very costly for manufacturers to call the drive back for repair, so they tend to be more than happy to send such parts out, without verification of the fault. Belkin/Logitech often take it a step further and send entire products (on hubs/keyboards/etc...).

Make the fault obvious. Tell them you have 2 drives of the same model and that one of the PSUs doesn't work at all, while the other works on both drives.

Thanks for the advice.

I found Western Digitals UK number on-line and gave them a ring. Got a recorded message telling me that for repairs/technical support I needed to ring a US 00800 number.
Rang that, was on hold for over 20 minutes, then got cut off.... Might try again later.

csamual : Any luck with the one you thought you had under the stairs ?
