I have 2x1GB GeIL 800MHz (6400), would be looking for £30 inc. delivery.

I know I don't have any feedback yet but you can check my ebay feedback with the same username :)

I can buy new RAM cheaper than that so really only looking at 2nd hand prices lower than cheapest play.com ram
#3
cheapest isnt always the better option

Ah OK matey, bear in mind that GeIL is a top make which will definately run at 800MHz with C4 timings (4-4-4-12) and also has a lifetime guarentee :) Good luck with your search!

Ok, I'll keep this in mind then. Might still take it, but do you know if I mix this with the 2 x 512mb (5300) ram in there already will it bring the speed down to the lowest common dedominator, or if I put your sticks in slots 1 & 2 will that allow for the highest speeds?

Yes, that's what will happen.

By the way ,these GeILs 2x1Gb PC6400 = £31.70 delivered.

These 2x1Gb PC5300 RAM from Crucial = £28.19 delivered (with 7% Quidco, excl VAT & del. = £26.51)

Edit: Even better, £23.98 delivered for 2 of these 1Gb PC5300 RAM modules off Play. Get 4% Quidco cashback, making them ~£23. I'm guessing the Dell is a Vostro & it's not going to be used for any high-end tasks - so fancy RAM isn't going to make much difference. If you can get secondhand for cheaper, then great

I have 2 of these http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=CT2KIT12864AA667 bought in error in Jan and never used. Brand new and still sealed.

Would want £21 for each kit so 2GB for £21 or 4GB for £40. Cannot believe how cheap memory is getting :-)

BT preferred or paypal with fees

Cheers for all that Crossbow. Realy helpful and rep being left now. Yes, that's also my thinking about the RAM as I won't be using it for anything beyond the norm.

Anyone who pokes Badgers with spoons is worth talkin' to! Thanks for this - I'm busy tomorrow (the usual stuff, a funeral and a visit to banks) so will wait until I get home to make a decision. Cheers.

EDIT: 2GB PC2-6400 sticks at 7dayshop.com for £17.99 each and 1GB sticks at £9.29 - I'll be using this as a benchmark for prices.

The 7dayshop 2Gb RAM (though faster stuff) is ~£22 delivered. I reckon BendyBadger has a fair offer with the better quality Crucial modules for less.

For 2 x 2 GB, 7dayshop is £36.98 + £3.95 = £40.93 deliv. I'll use that as my baseline I think. Decisions later (btw, this 3 mobile BB is working at great speeds!)

Fair enough, but do you really need 4Gb RAM in total? 32-bit XP/Vista can only recognise/address 3-3.5Gb, though there's a tweak available somewhere to change this.

yes, I read about that tweak. Also, I have 4GB in my lap with vista premium 32bit and it recognises 3.5GB. I've also read that although it claims to recognise only 3.5GB the system will actually make use of all 4GB if called upon? And yes, you are right that 3GB is probably all I need but the price differences on the 1GB and 2GB chips means I'd prefer to have the matched pair of 2 x 2GB
#14
4Gb it is then! All the best for the cheapest price
#15
Thanks. So nobody else has any RAM to sell?
#16
Mine's still here and mintier than a minty mint. Any idea when you will make the decision as this has spurred me on to get rid so might put it on ebay? Cheers

Ok, I'll let this run today and make a final decision by this evening. Remind me what the very lowest:) you are willing to go for me? And I can pay BT to save you any charges!

The very lowest I would go is £39 as I should be able to get £40 easily for it on fleasbay but this would save on fees/hassle etc.

Exactly as you would get from Crucial. I ordered by mistage as I thought my Shuttle might have more than 2 slots. It doesn't. :x So Ordered 2x2GB instead and want to make as much as I can back on my original purchase. My loss is your gain :-D

Let me know anyhoo.

Thanks for that update BB, but in the meantime the machine has arrived and guess what? It won't boot up! I turn it on, the fan comes on and then I get an intermitent double beep, nothing else. Won't even let me power-off at the button - have to turn off the power supply! Have just emailed Dell Outlet to see what the deal is, but I might just send the whole thing back for a refund. I'll get back when they get back to me, but will understand if you go to ebay in the meantime. And anyway, tbh, £39 is still a little high considering I can buy 2 x 2GB sticks from 7-day shop for less (and that's PC2-6400) - if you can get £40 on eBay then that's the route to go. In the meantime, my 'great deal' from Dell Outlet has quickly turned into a headache.

UPDATE: Dell are collecting the system Monday after doing checks with the technician on the phone. One of the memory sticks was bad but they've decided to do a full check on the system rather than replace the memory. I tried to blag an upgrade on the memory but he was having none of it! So yes, I'm going to hold off until the machine returns before deciding what to do. You never know, they still might put an upgrade of memory in it if they have no 512MB chips to hand (says he hopefully).

EDIT: just stuck my RAM from another desktop in there and the sytstem is running well so I'm gonna refuse the collection Monday and ask them to replace the memory instead. So I'm back in the market.

Ok, my offer is £16 delivered for 2 x 1GB or £30 for 4 x 1GB. I can deposit direct in your bank for instant payment and I'd like recorded delivery. Sorry I can't offer anymore as I can get the higher speed for £17.99 for a 2GB chip and have other things to order so postage. Let me know if interested but heading out for dinner now so will reply a little later. I'm also putting an offer in for the other memory in post 1. Thanks.

Thanks - you've probably seen from my other posts that I can get pc2-6400 for £9.99 a stick so that's my benchmark. I know this might be better memory but makes little difference for my needs - so I can offer £17 delivered for these and can deposit direct in your bank account if needs be. Thanks. Other offer in on this thread too, so first acceptance is the one I will take. Thanks for considering.

Sorry not wiling to let it go for that little. Good luck in your quest both with Dell and the memory.
