What car do you have? Age model etc.

I wouldn't have thought it'd cost hundreds to get it fixed, its probably just a lose cable or a knackered sensor - do the other instruments on the dash still work?

Also I expect you'll need to fix it for your next MOT

and u know that there not very accurate so u could be doing 35 in a 30 but gps saying 30 hence u get pulled over and told off by the old bill

you're going to trust a signal bounced off of a satellite to determine your speed?

you wouldn't need a speedo to pass the mot.... tell me exactly how they would test a speedo on a stationary car.

Do you know what, the lady is right! Its not part of an MOT, however if the police pull you with it they won't be too sympathetic!

Have you done the scrap yard rounds? Check as it may be a "road speed sensor" failure (located on the gearbox or thereabouts) depending on make etc. . . . . which would be pretty cheap to rectify

Will have a look. But in the mean time does anyone have a cheap GPS?!

cuckoo yourself mate

the signal bounced around by sattelite is far more accurate than that old analogue dial in front of you.
