Bought a graphics card from here recently and found that it didn't provide significant improvement in old games (checked charts already and the card is meant to be a beast in those terms). Therefore, I worked out that the processor/ram is the bottleneck.
I know these are ancient in the tech world, but anyone got any to sell cheaply?

Please state price and delivery.
Shipping/Payment:
Paypal and now that my PINSentry arrived, I can do BT now!!!

i have sd ram, might be 256 or 512, if it is 256 you can have it for £5 or 512 for £10 inc p&p

if that is not reasonable then let me know! i will be open to offers! just want to get rid!

i also have a P4 processor! i think it is 1.6!
#2
Im also after a Socket A Processor, Although OP obv gets first dibs.

Just so you know, SKT A is the AMD Sempron and early Athlon, Rated up to about 2.2-2.4 GHz ;)
#3
no too clued up about the processors! but at the moment it is screwed onto my old mother board! i think it is socket A! i will take pic in the morning if anyone is interested!
#4
I dont think Intel did SKT A's.. Im pretty sure the P4 is 778 or 478 or something lol ^^
#5
i think 778 rings a bell! but not sure! if op is interested or anyone else i will post a pic of memory and MB
#6
lol, Sorry to spoil hehe. Sometimes my nerd brain takes over and I cant stop haha
#7
Hey Artonox/Jo3l, tell me which AMD socket A processor you would like and I'll see if I can dig one out...or as close to what you want!
#8
o soory mate i just sold my old old pc parts and had a amd socket A processor and bought one from cyber power systems

sorry :( good luck though
#9
Id be looking for a 2.2 GHz Athlon. 3200+ I think. Obv, None that have been cookied or mega clocked heh
#10
I have an XP-M 2500+ that I used to run at 2.5 ghz but I would rather not sell it without selling the board too (Abit NF7-S Rev 2----one of the best).

CPU is still in situ on the board with a Thermaltake Volcano 12 HSF (Speed controlled).

Anyway, if you are interested in the whole thing let me know.

Alternatively, if you would like to modernise your platform I could dig up a s754 cpu and board.

No idea re pricing as I haven't a clue what postage would cost.

Edit: Can supply 2 x 256 pc2700 with the XP-m 2500+/NF7-s setup,

i've got 2 512mb sdram here. Made by "Team" TG512M97418375DMRC

I can't find much on them and i believe they are ecc "registered" memory.

I bought them over a year ago but when i got them found out they are ecc and not non-ecc and that's why i've not used them and they have just sat in the cupboard.

If you can use them you can have them for a tenner
#13
Registered memory is for server boards IIRC.

Socket A needs non-registered pc2700/pc3200.
#14
hence why it never worked for me...thanks
#15
I have an Athlon 1.8Ghz with a 512mb stick of 133MHZ ram in my old PC..... how much would you be willing to pay for the lot? £20 incl postage?
#16
Got a Socket A AMD Sempron 2600+ (1833), part number SDA2600DUT3D if you want to google it.

It came from an old machine of mine and was in full working order when I dismantled it although I've got no means of testing it now.

Say £7 via paypal inc first class recorded delivery.
#17
ok just woken up so here goes:

I need the A socket processor to be as high as possible
The 512mb sdram preferably to be 1x512 (not 2x256mb). Im looking for either one or two of these.

Will now look at your offers and see if its good or not.

Prices are a bit steep (check ebay). Looking solely on 512 ram for now. P4 processor is unfortunately not suitable for my old skt A :D

could have sworn these are for servers only :(
However im not sure if it will work in the pc - 168-pin 3.3V unbuffered PC133 SDRAM is what the manual says
Not willing to risk it unfortunately (great price though, would have taken it) is there any way to check?

Too steep. Checked ebay and the athlon goes for about £5 on its own (£3 is the lowest ive seen) or higher depending on fan
Ram can be bought for about £7-8 (as low as £3.50 :D)

willing to go lower?

It might be an idea to check exactly what motherboard you have and what the maximum speed processor it will take is. I say this because the SDRAM Athlon boards usually only accept upto a Palomino Athlon XP chip (max speed 1733 MHz - rated 2100+). Chances are your motherboard will only do 266MHz FSB, maybe a bit more with overclocking but the RAM stability becomes a problem then.

The later Thoroughbred, Thorton and Barton Athlon cores were designed for DDR motherboards.

HTH!

ok it supports:
Socket-462 CPU for AMDK7 processors and you are correct - 266 MHz FSB max

I dont really know the brand of the motherboard - it says "M810 series" and "PC266 Systemboard" as a logo in the top left of the manual

i think its a pcchips board
uses the T-bird chipset

OK, here's a FAQ for the motherboard, http://radel.inet.net.nz/m810lmr.html

You'll need to locate the version number of the motherboard and then decide which processor you want to go for. Wikipedia has a good page listing all the different Athlon models.

Motherboard version 7.0 = First to support XP+ CPUs and "Morgan" Duron CPUs

this is it (gave you rep for some help)

ALSO
it supports:
Version 7.0 = Support AMD Athlon XP* 1500+ & 1600+ Palomino (and previous Athlon/Duron CPUs).

I am interested in this

I think its an Athlon XP 1.8Ghz. Only thing is I wouldn't be able to send it to you for a couple of weeks as I'm going away, is that a problem?
#32
May I ask what graphics card you have & the games you're trying to play? Also please let us know your current CPU.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From the link, it says if you update the BIOS, a better CPU can be installed. But to do this you must first find the exact motherboard version (use SIW for this), then download the updated file by doing a search here - I can help you locate the correct one if you post the exact motherboard model.

Flashing the BIOS can be risky, but as long as you get the correct file & obey instructions to the letter it should be fine (I've done it quite a few times with no problems).

Let me know if you might consider this.

P.S. If required, a more detailed manual for your motherboard can be downloaded from here.

Hey Jo3l/Artonox, if you don't have anything by Monday then I'll check what's available.

Hey mate, Im interested but need a few more details.

For the XP-M board what RAM does it take and what graphics interface does it have? In order to get it running at 2.5 was it overclocked, hot etc? If so, Can you supply it ready clocked?

Also, Id like to know which board and processor you can for the SKT754?

Thanks.

Graphics card is Radeon 9200SE. A bit poor for games in 2005 and above but im not looking forward to play those games. I currently play Warcraft 3 (and use it as a benchmark) and the current cpu is AMD Athlon 800Mhz (I know its slow).

The average fps on it is 15 (and i mean it :D)

EDIT: also, the website don't seem to list my motherboard revision "m810 v7.0". The closest is actually v7.5. But ill use it as a reference anyway as the 2 are very similar apart from the fact that the latter has better support for cpus

WOW! I dont know how you can live with performance like that lol :p
#39
im pro :D (only joking)
sometimes it lags so much I had to make my clicks count - when I sometimes complain that I lag on internet, some dont believe me because i manage to play as good as them
