My Sky+ box has officially died, and being out of warranty, Sky obviously want nothing to do with it......

I refuse to pay £65 for an 'engineer' to come out and visit, so i thought i'd try to get a new(ish) one.

Please let me know what you've got/cost etc.

Thanks

I had mine for 3 year and they came out and replaced it for me, hadn't long taken out a new 12 month contract though.

tell them you want to cancell as you cant watch anything so no point having subscription, they will waive the fee and send an engineer out say ytou cant afford the fee

you dont take out new 12 month contract after 12 months you are free to leave at anytime, only time you would be tied to another 12 months is if you took sky hd or broadband from them

The problem is that i've not long since had HD installed upstairs so am in a contract with that so can't threaten to cancel...

I had this last week, Sky+ wouldn't pause or record.

Ring them, go through to the tech support department, they'll take you through various rubbish to try and get it working. When they mention an engineer, ask if you have to pay for this. They'll tell you the £65 charged you mentioned. Tell them you're unwilling to pay this and would like to be transferred to cancellations.

They'll stick you on hold, and may well come back saying there's a queue of XX minutes for this department, would you like to call back another time? DON'T! Stay on the line, my call was answered within 5 minutes after being told there was a 35 minute wait!

Explain to the cancellations rep why you're cancelling, they give you all the "You'll lose everything though, can you really go without Sky etc". Just stick to your guns. Tell them you're not prepared to pay for an engineer when you already pay for the service.

They'll tell you they're putting you on hold while they go through with the cancellation. Then they'll come back and offer an engineer to you at no cost! Worked great for me and they fixed my box on Wednesday.

Just push them all the way, don't give in. It's a 30 day notice period anyway, so if this doesn't work for you, and they do cancel, you can always just ring back and say you're keeping it instead!

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice but i won't be able to threaten cancellation as i've just got a new HD box, pretty sure this puts you on a new contract.

Time for plan B then! E-mail [email protected]">[email protected] with exact details of the problem, how you love Sky etc, just got HD and it's the best thing since sliced bread. Mention how you don't feel it's fair you need to pay for an engineer when you already pay so much money to Sky. Include your phone number and wait for the call, it's the CEO's office!

Indeed he is, to be fair Sky's cricket coverage is spot on as it is, but Bumble's personality makes it extra enjoyable!

We renewed it as we got all channels for half price for 12 months, so I am in another 12 month contract.
