Best to start with a few bits, firstly cos they are expensive, and second, because if you get too much, its a bit overwhelming!

Our daughter got into this last year and we bought 3 houses, cars, boats, caravans and about 8 families in sainsburys half price sale-only gave her half of it and the rest she has been getting bits over the course of the year.

I reccommend getting a playmat(not an official sylvanian item)-amazon have loads-we got one with fields, ponds and roads etc on it and its great-just makes it look so much nicer when set up.

I would advise getting the treehouse first-its lovely, maybe one car/caravan/boat and a few families to start-you can easily go mad with this stuff, and its quite expensive, but they are all good quality toys.

The furniture is the killer expense wise,so maybe just a coupla beds and a sofa to start? Hope this helps you decide.

I would echo whats above, except I dont think I'd bother with the houses, simply because furnishing them gets ridiculously expensive.
If you get things like the caravan or the boat, they are all fully furnished and you don't need to buy anything extra other than a family to go with it.

thanks so much it is mind blowing! so if I have this right the caravans and boats come with accessories and the houses don't?

Can someone please link me to one of the "mats" described above on ebay - sounds like a good first purchase. Thanks
