I have a disc that came with my laptop... it has Vista labelled on it and a cd-key on the back.

Can anyone tell me if this will do (or if it's what you're looking for)? I've always been curious as to what this disc does.

Haha thanks! :)

Cant sell that if you still have Vista installed on the laptop.

The disk is at work, and I'm on holiday until September (yippee for me!)

Why can't I sell it if I still have Vista installed on my laptop? Just curious :) so that I don't get myself into trouble

The sricker with the numbers i the licence code - this is the code that proves you have a valid copy of windows.
If you sell the CD and sticker, and someone else installs it, one of you (or both!) are breaching the terms of the licence ans therefore illegally using the software.

Also, if you sell the CD and your hard disk goes wrong, you will not longer have a valid version to re-install and will have a dead laptop.

not to mention the buyer will not be able to register it as it is registered to you so buyer will only get 30 days before it stops working.

As they said Moe :)
#10
there are ways around the 30 day trial though
#11
Ways yes, but none of them legal.
#12
If you happen to have a dell I have some genuine dell vista restore discs.

got a dell vista disc, came with lappy.

This thread really is just asking for trouble with licensing....

OEM disks cant be used, so Dell Vista discs cant be used unless on the original laptop.

My one is just the OS & I 've used it on loads of laptops with no problems.
Just 4 the 30 days of course to see if all is ok :whistling:

OK lets be clear - YES you can physically install it. NO its not legally licensed. These forums prevent illegal (or potentially illegal) deals.

Come on guys, surely we all know that you can install illegaly, but should we be encouraging it on here?

What makes you think the op isnt after a legitimate vista disk?
#18
Nothing - I am not saying he isnt. I'm saying that half of people replying are offering non-legit disks.

I disagree. OEM Dell disks can be used on other dell machines. A lot of people with vista have gone back to XP so nothing illegal about selling on their vista disk and licence.
#20
Not if the OS is different from the original OS installed on that laptop - it is a completely seperate licence.

Anyway, I'm really not bothered - people can install illegal software if they like :) but if they are doing that, might as well get it free rather than pay!

Sorry to stir things... I wasn't aware of the license and legal issues... but glad things are clearER now (still not fully clear)

Let me see... the disc is only supposed to be used to my laptop. If something goes wrong with mine, then I can't repair it without the disc (assuming I lost it... not sold illegally :))
If the OS (means...?) uses my disc, then he cannot register it because it's linked to mine (but why would he want to register it anyway??)

Anyway, I'm not promoting illegal transactions... I'm just trying to understand... don't ban me mod... I'm so scared.... hold me someone....
