what's a whelping box?
#2
a box to keep the pregnant dog and puppies in with high sides and rails so they dont fall out. usually plastic to keep them hygenic.

Wouldn't a large plastic, storage container be enough?

how about the recycling box given to each home by the council?

needs to have a lower lip on one side or better an opening or lip of some sort, to let the mother get in an out without falling back on the pups

when our gog had puppies we uses a rabbit hutch on its side and just modified that a bit, maybe worth asking on freecycle for one, good luck with the birth:)
#12
when i went to pick up my pup the breeder had the mother and pups in a cage they had one half as a bed with blanket 2nd half with paper they told me at the time as pups got older before they went to their new homes they would start to use the paper
when i picked my pup up he was already paper trained and believe it or not the pup had no accidents in doors i was amazed
just an idea because during the day you can leave door open so mum can get in and out when she wants
#13
I am looking for a reasonably priced Pug puppy, How much will you be charging for yours, what part of the country are you in.

yeah have cage but for first two weeks they can get through too easy and they take up half room too. hard to keep eye on them. need something in between size.

dont think our dogs would take to a cat, nice idea though, used to have a farm one outside that died a year or so ago, no heart to replace yet but will do soon find right one. cant keep inside as son allergic to them pity.

nice cat that, had pure white as kid called her sooty, as you do, lol

I found this ideal for our Bichon http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90027811 with the lid off of course. Packed it out with vet bed

Then when the pups were a bit older they went into a paddling pool like this http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3650158/Trail/searchtext%3EPADDLING+POOL.htm except ours was four ft diameter. They eventually reached an age when they would puncture the walls by biting them, so I got a puppy pen which sat inside the paddling pool. The sides of the paddling pool still kept drafts off and the floor was easy to keep clean. The puppy pen stopped them puncturing the sides. The age they were put in the puppy pen was after they were on puppy porridge and the bitch left them alone a lot in any case.

Everything is potentially re-usable, although I wouldn;t bother keeping the paddling pools, which are cheap enough. I'll be doing exactly the same next time around

EDIT: Forgot to say puppy pen was off a well known auction site
