I'm trying to get hold of a windows xp professional disc as my laptop has crashed and i have lost the cd.

I have asked friends and they are unable to help me.

I allready have a serial code, so i'm basically asking if anyone could lend me a windows xp pro disc or let me buy a copy off them.

Thanks for your help

its not always as simple as borrowing a copy off a friend. different manufactures have different OEM versions and quite often a number from one won't work with a disk for another. what make is your laptop? i have disks here for quite a few so should be able to help you out if its one i have
As mentioned above if you can work out wheter you have a retail or oem version and also if its.
xp, xp+sp1 or xp+sp2 sure i can help you if he/she cant. postal or ftp prefered.
the service pack version won't be relevant as you can slipstream the packs in. its basically a matter of whether its the retail or OEM version and if the OEM then which manufacturer. i'm a "he" btw :)
My laptop is a HP compaq nx5000, i'm not sure what service pack version it had.
On the sticker on the bottom it says Windows XP Pro 1-2CPU then has HP directly underneath.

At the moment it has windows 2000 running on it, and just want to upgrade it back to windows xp pro.

I'm not that great with computers, but if i did get hold of a cd, all i need to do is boot up from the cd?

ok if its a HP then the standard OEM disk should work . if you PM me with your name address etc i can send you a copy of it. you would simply bootup from the cd and then reformat the drive during the install. you should make a copy of your drivers folder before you format it.
hey i have that lapatop you should have an option to reset all the settings on it in the menu cant remember what it was like but i got a bash version of this laptop form a skip so i repaired it
