the avermedia game capture is usually cheap and you can add a hdd for recording without pc
mostly one touch , just need you component cables to make it work

Hi, I used to make professional videos for my channel on YouTube, gaming related of course. I used to use a 'Elgato Game Capture HD' which is the best external recording device on the market, however it's around £100 (second hand) but worth every penny, may be worth telling your son to wait and save for one of those. There is of course cheaper alternatives, I recommend a AVerMedia Game Capture HD for starters, and allows you to record without a PC (just need to insert a hardrive). It all depends on how serious your son is on recording the videos and the type of quality he wants, if he wants full 1080p, there's no choice but the Elgato or a HD PVR 2, there is also a Black Magic Intensity Pro which slots inside your PC.

Hi and thanks for the advice. I have passed it in too my son. We realise now that the one I was looking at in Cex was not HD and I think he has decided this would be what he would want. It does make the price jump but as you suggested he is gonna save a bit longer and keep looking :D

I'm guessing these end up in a cupboard next to the soda stream , breville & popcorn maker lol.

Thank you fanpages, both the kids agree that this would be a good one to start with and they are happy with the price.
