Rightio, just got my Xbox from Game. I know the raves about XMBC, so curious to test this out. Looking online, it looks like I need a few ingredients to softmod this up. If you happen to have the stuff I'm looking (or know simpler instructions), then please post!

So far, I figured I might need these things:
1) Splinter Cell (i know I could get this for £1 but it might not be the softmod ver)
2) some way of transporting files (like Action Replay)
OR
2) usb to xbox controller (i know you could make em yourself but that would mean sacrifice :( )

I need both. If you submit just one of the two, i may take longer to consider.
Name a price, and ill consider it.

3) also may need memory unit

Shipping/Payment:
I can do PP or BT

hmm interesting - so if I need to update the xmbc, does this mean i need to invest in one of those usb to pc things?

Once you softmod your xbox you can just install the latest xbmc using a network cable by conecting your xbox to your pc

ok, how big is the memory card? official?
might be a bit stupid here now, but can you save on the harddrive instead of the memory card once xmbc is installed?

yes you can drop files directly onto the xbox hard drive via ftp software once you've softmodded.

This is by far the best guide I have seen on the internet - the site also has dozens of other handy tutorials, well worth adding to your favorites

how about gamesaves? same applies? I can remove the mem card and load off the harddrive instead?

Of course :) For FTP'ing I'd recommend Flash FXP - it's a free trial where your first 30 sessions are free, then you need to pay for it (well worth the money).

ok i understand what is required now. I have reviewed as follows:
Splinter cell: £2
Mem: £4
P+P: 2

So i offer £8

EDIT: and ty AberBargoed. I'd rep you again, but I cant lol.

That does work (and it's free too ) but there are various threads about where that method doesn't always copy everything across - a nightmare if you are trying to upgrade XBMC/UnleashX build! Happened to me so went for Flash on recommendation of a friend and not had one problem with it - it's also great for FTP'ing from one xbox to another.

Why dont you just do the hotswap method with your PC?

after 2 hours of fiddling with the pc and xbox, the last page was just too vague (like pull out the xbox wire from the back and "type xbrowser to check cpu") and i couldnt figure out what to do.

EDIT: also, holding back on buying for now - i think my bro's friend could help me do it.
if you got a price then please post, and ill answer if i like it

I have a USB to xbox cable & a usb stick with all the saves on & splinter cell game, I use this to softmod xbox's.
Since you have good feedback I would be willing to lend you my kit to softmod your xbox if you want but you would have to cover postage :)

ty for your genorosity stgeorge
Just waiting for a response from the friend to see if he could get it sorted then everyone is cool. He is off for the weekend too, so this may take a while :(

(Tbh i wouldn't mind doing this your way, but as a pessimist, i fear that i might lose your goods with RM or something lol.
P.S of course I would cover both postage - infact I would temporarily let you have, say, £10 to hold for "protection" of both parties ;-) since im a beginner at this stuff too)

Just an update. My bros friend's friend came over with the goods from my bro's friend :p. As a result, the xbox is sorted :D

So...

@ danjcarr1: i'm afraid im gonna have to give up on the offer as the job is complete
@ stgeorge: once again, ty for the genorosity, so hopefully another lucky member will require your services

As a conclusion to this thread, I will give some juicy rep ;-)

Mods please close :D
