I heard that only works for a certain time period before further damage happens?

i actually did that however does it not mean it will make the console more hotter rather you have to keep it cool for it to be working properly.

it heats the solder up apparantly and helps reseat somthing but the heat has a detrimental effect on other parts, you need xclamp from what ive heard. never owned one and only picked up what others have said, so no expert.

I heard that only works for a certain time period before further damage happens?

so does the manufacturers repair. :whistling: its a design fault of the 360. when i fixed mine i used the towel trick and then changed the clamping method away from the x-clamps. that was over 6 months ago. longer than the original 360 lasted before getting the rrod. when the board gets hot the solder joints pop because of the clamping stress. the only long term solutions are to run it cooler or remove the stress on the motherboard........ preferably both

there are places that reflow the solder which is the professional repair method but a lot of them claim to reflow when in fact they simply let the board overheat before applying proper heatsink pressure. if you know the repairer is going to reflow then thats the best choice but failing that i'd redo the towel trick and if you're confident enough change the x-clamps for a better method

i know a few people that have modded their 360's with the flash and microsoft have still repaired the console. You will however receive the 360 back with a new dvd drive though. lol
#10
Just baking up wilkinn, I know of a few people who have sent them back and have had them repaired.

Appears that they are not too bothered about the warrenty sticker missing, or a flashed drive..

Some people do restore the drives back just in case.
#11
so do you guys suggest i send it of - want it matter as it has been flashed with iextreme. also where does the warranty sticker go - is it located at the back case of the console? i just checked behind where you plug the power and tv cables they are a few serial no's and thats it no sticker of any sort
#12
I can help - check your PM.
#13
Alright, sorry for not posting earlier, was at a summer ball last night.

Anyway..

- Don't bake it with towels, this usually does more damage then good, especially if you bake it before you replace the clamps.
- The warranty sticker is beneath the face plate, you'll see it if you pull it off. Post a pic of the condition of the sticker and I'll tell you if its worth sending back or not (they DO care about the warranty sticker - if they don't like the condition it's in they wont repair it).

If the warranty sticker is in poor condition I'll tell you what your next options are...
#14
Also theres a like silver piece of aluminium stuck to the case and the DVD drive.. check that that's not broken..
#15
Better solution would be to get a ps3 ;) (Oh no he didnt go there did I? )

As said above check your warranty sticker is intact, its not unusual for ms to repair modded consoles.
#16
hello i contacted micro soft today and was told it is ok to send in the console even though its out of warranty so thats good - but the problem is should i do it or not? after inspecting the console today it clearly looks as if its been opened as i do not want to get in any troubl - does microsof carry an action out or simply return the item without repairing it? also baconsandwic i have taken the photos:

thankyou for your help..

i've had a few rrod consoles you can never fix it 100% and if someone gets it working by the time its been through the postal service you might find it locks up randomly etc

Just realised i've got 4 360s lol

yes this silver piece of aluminium has been clearly broken--- oh oh does it mean i cannot send it anymore
#19
its worth a shot, like i said its never gonna be 100% if you fix it yourself. My first rrod that i fixed worked fine for about 6 months but completly died after that. i was gonna stick it in the electric oven as a last resort but that even broke lol :(
#20
Not even worth it in my opinion.. Warranty sticker has obviously been removed.. Look at the pattern on it..

This is what my warranty sticker looks like (this one has been opened and flashed)

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g129/beauchampy/IMG_0505.jpg

You need to remove the sticker with a hair dryer to achieve that ^^ looks like your guy didn't bother. You could still try sending it back to MS but more than likely they wont even touch it and charge you for return postage.

Basically now you need to do an xclamp replacement.. If done correctly it can last a long time. Baking your console with the towel trick wont have helped though. There's two methods, lawldogs and rbjtech's.

This is my favourite method;

if you send it in anyway the fee to fix is about £70 if thay find it out of warranty
lots of people have reported getting consoles back that they have sent flashed and no sticker

I could x-clamp it for you but out of 6 i have done only 2 are still going the others lasted about 6 months before starting to refreeze
#22
hi again, ok after reading everything im going to send it of to microsoft - c what they say.
if they do not repair it i will go with baconsandwic to try his tutorial - however after a quick browse on the tutorial it looks quite complex - so will you baconsandwic do it for me if i cover the postage charges both ways?
thanks

microsoft will accept the console for repair, but it will be replaced by the new lite-on drive thats unflashable, best option send it away to get fixed, ebay it and buy a new one from shops.

option 2 buy one from the shops switch them over and take it back, asda is best place as you have 28 day no questions asked guarantee, just make sure the console is sparkling clean like new.

option 3 do the xclamp fix,its very easy,here is a link m8
http://www.x-clamp-fix.com/catalog/product_info.php?info=p5_X-Clamp-Fix-DIY-Kit.html

yes u can buy the parts from a store, but unless you can get the specific sizes u have to drill and the exact sizes are not common sizes, but this company will send you kit and instructions to fix.

i would try microsoft first though.

hope this helps m8,i can fix it for you but live in manchester so would have to post and its about £15 each way so not worth it m8

Theres a shop in Middlesbrough that sells new M$ stickers for a fiver! They mod 360's and have taken it upon themselves to supply the sticker if you get the 3RR's lol! If you want i can driver over to the shop (tues) buy one, send it you and maybe paypal me the fiver? up to you m8 if you want to be on the safe side?

Btw i know loads of people who have had their 360's flashed and sent them off with np's at all ;)

thanks for your help - its still unclear to me if the sticker looks fine does it mean microsoft accept it - want they also check other things like if the drive is flashed or not?
BUT MY MAIN QUESTION IS - will i be in trouble of sending a flashed console can they take some legal action against me, or becuase i own it i can do anything with it?

I've heard of something like this being done before and to be honest its a really ****ed up thing to do and if you dont mind selling your soul to the devil go for it, i wouldnt tho.
#28
No they wont take legal action m8 ;)

And ill driver over there? what was i typing lol!

nothing is 100 perminant when a 360 is invloved m8,its 90% fix,the problem is with the 360 is the lead free solder is ****,the xbox gets to hot to not use it,its the ****** cheap cooling them have combined with cheap claqmps/fixings,all i can change is the fixings,i have done about 7 and never had one break, but its gonna cost £15 each way just for posting m8 and then i have to buy parts and fix it and i dont do charity work,i got a kid to feed,i sold my soul to the devil 15 years ago theres no going back for me,
just go asda, but tell them its red ringed and they will take it back, give them a fake name and address though on return note, dont say u dont like it as it will just get sold to te next person and thats not right.

the sticker seems a good option though, they got for about £17 on ebay so £5 is cheap

parcel2go will have it collected by DHL for about £5.99 I think, so £11.98 for shipping in both directions, that should keep his costs down a little if he decides to go with that option.

iv just visited the main asda website - cld not find any xbox360 in the console section. as i have an old 360 and i guess they must be doing the new ones with hdmi - so want they find the difference between old and new version?
#33
do asda have xbox 360?
#34
danib - I sent you a message but you haven't replied.
I can repair them, I've done quite a few of them - I did the first ones (including my own) last August, and so far none of them have broken down again.
You could try sending it to Microsoft - but I've heard from people whose consoles have been flashed (and therefore opened) that they've sent them away, only to get them back unrepaired once Microsoft realise it's been opened/flashed. Also sometimes Microsoft charge ridiculous amounts (£60+).

I've PM'd you with all the details, so if you're interested please get back to me. I can send you links to my eBay feedback, and in fact if you look at the link that baconsandwich posted you'll see I made a small contribution to that popular guide. :)

what make of dsrive is in it,open the tray and take a pic of the drive open from the top,as microshaft have been replacing a few with LITE ON drives as of a couple of week back, but they are still using benq, good news is they no longer use hitachi's

yes,the 1st lot of 360's had flashable hitachi's(47dj/49/59/78),samsungs(ms25/28),then at the end went to benq and hitachi 79's.
then came the falcon board with hdmi and they had a few hitachi drives, the dreaded 79fk and the best benq, now microsoft have just benq and 79's on sale in shops, but when they get sent in for repair some have been coming back with LITE-ON drives and as of yet they are unflashable.

so to answer ya question mate its the latest drive the 79fk thats a solder job and they a **** drive also, but given that microsoft are changing fixed consoles that have them in as they have a low ife span before they start giving timing errors.

remember when microsoft was banning people, they was measuring the code response timings, which would be fine if the drive was brand new,but if u remember loads of legit folk also got banned, thiswas due to drives being substandard and not sending the correct codes back due to misreading of the disk,so that was microsofts only way of detecting possible hacked drives,so now they have made the LITE-ON,which is almost silent and has better laser build and rumored to have a combined flash and eprom making it not flashable as there is no direct acces to the chip.

Im in Leicester and can mod bar the Hitachi 79 and the new unmodable drives. Best off you just open up the 360 to see what drive you have in there first.
