A good option would be the AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition. Its AM3 but its only a dual-core. It has good potential to overclock and you could unlock 2 cores and push it up to 3.7ghz.

Effectively you get a cheap 3.7ghz quad-core but there's one thing you need to keep in mind. You will need a specific type of motherboard to overclock this. For you to be able to do this you need an AMD Mobo with the SB750 as this will not work with an nForce Mobo.

This may set you back another £80-90 but may be worth it. Overclocking is easier than it sounds and most motherboards come with software to do this.

The best option however is the Phenom II X4 955

its £99 at dabs

http://www.dabs.com/products/amd-phenom-ii-x4-955-3-2ghz-black-edition-socket-am3-l2-l3-6mb-6K8D.html

The unlocking of the cores on the x2 550 I mentioned previously has a 50/50 chance of working. Your best option would be to get the more stable X4 955.
