Have been looking at the Belkin one, which is selling on eBay for about a tenner. Looking to save a bit of cash here if possible.

Alternativly, if you want something for nothing, I will pay any kind soul that will lend me thiers £2 plus postage and send it back the same day - just need it for the one use to transfer music across onto my new PC.

Many thanks,
Chris.

Are both your PC's connected to the Internet? And do you have a fairly reasonable upload/download speed?

Why not just find a free site to host them on temporarily or, alternatively, e-mail them to yourself & receive the mail on the (new) Vista machine?

BFN,

fp.

PS. I loathe Belkin stuff... it *always* fails.

Just get a network cable between the 2 PCs, the data transfer will be faster and more reliable. And cheaper!!

Thanks for the info guys. Only one PC can be connected to the internet at any one time, and my internet is hellishly slow, so the whole up/downloading thing or emailing idea is out im afraid. I could set both PCs up next to each other though - how exactly would I go about linking them?

I have an ethernet cable... (apologies for my poor cpu knowledge btw).

Thanks, Chris.

I did mine through my router, just flag the folders you want to share. Bear in mind theres straighthru and crossover cable, and for 2 similar devices you need crossover. The way to tell is if the ends match up, its straighthru, and vice versa.

The problem is he doesn't have a router or network, just 2 pcs with a standalone modem.

Thanks very much all. Can I just remove the hard drive from one PC and put it into my new one, transfer the songs over and then put the old hard drive back into the old PC? Does that even make sense? :p

Again, thanks!

It does... if you have a second hard drive in your new machine to copy the files on to.

However, you may invalidate your warranty if you open up the case of the new machine and, not least, you may not be skilled to do this.

Why not source an external hard drive enclosure with USB connector support & drop [not literally] the hard drive from your old machine in that & use the drive as an external USB drive on your new machine?

BFN,

fp.

External USB disks would definatly be easier.

to be honest - id invest in a cheap external drive; its nice to have all your stuff backed up in case your hard disk crashes.

You may be able to run a peer-to-peer network between your two PCs by using a crossover cable and running it between them, im sure this is possible, but have never tried. Another networking solution if this doesnt work is using an ethernet switch.

Hope this helps.
